ISOM question

Here comes another newbie question. Here's a little backround of these cigars. Fiance was in Mexico with her parents last summer, and wanted to bring me back some cubans. She picked me up a Cohiba and a Bolivar. Her Dad (tons of knowledge about cigars and I'd ask him, but he's out of the country, don't really want to wait for him to get back) took the cigars she bought and put them in his humidor and gave her two of the same cigars out of his humidor that had been aging to give to me so I didn't have to wait to smoke them. Don't know exactly how long they were sleeping, but the look, feel, and smell ready to me. I've never smoked a cuban cigar, but sampled lots of other premium non ISOMs so I can't wait to smoke these. I like full bodied cigars like opus and VSG so I'm beyond excited to light one of these up. Now, before I smoke them, I want to know what they are. Here are some pictures of the length and ring size so hopefully you will be able help me out here. If you can tell me what they are that would be great, but also, which one should I smoke first? let me know if you have problems viewing the images. Thanks in advance for your help. BTW, I tried to find a way to figure this out on the forum and by searching the internet, but couldn't find any picture and I really want to be sure so if I like them (i'm sure I will) I will know what to look for next time. Thanks agian.

Without even looking at the pictures, I can tell you that they are most likely fake. Unless, that is, he purchased them from a LCDH in Mexico.

Both appear to be typical churchill sizes.

you need to measure more accurately..LOL!!

But these appear to be the closest.

Bolivar Corona Gigante 6.9" Ring Guage of 47
Cohiba Esplendido 6.9" ring guage of 47

and as moki said they look awful suspect..

I have only smoked 4 cuban cigars so,
I am by no means an expert but you sure thoes are real cubans

Looks to me like you've got a Bolivar Coronas Gigantes and a Cohiba Esplendidos. Smoke the Boli first and then the Cohiba. Best way to tell how superior Cohibas really are :D

Unfortunately I agree with moki. They are most likely fake if bought anywhere other then an LCDH.

Like I said, I know nothing about ISOMs, but looked at CA's counterfeit(sp?) page and the cohiba looks real to me as far as the band goes. Again, not saying I don't trust you, but he is a seasoned cigar smoker with an excellent palate for cigars/wine/food, and I really trust him. So assuming they are not fake, I'd like to know what they are. Also, what are the tell tale signs that they are fake. Are there any other dead giveaways that CA doesn't mention other than not buying Cohiba's with a glass top? :D

I know he didn't buy them from some guy on the beach, but when he gets back in the country, I'll ask where he bought them. I know he said he always goes to the same place to buy his cubans, he's been doing that for quite a few years now.

Dumb question, what does LCDH stand for?

Do they look fake in the pictures?

It's kind of hard to tell from the pics but the Esplendidos looks especially suspect. LCDH stands for La Casa Del Habano which is the official retailer for Habanos S.A.

sorry to nag, but I'm just tryig to learn a little bit here, not saying you are wrong, I honestly have no way of knowing 100% (other than smoking them, and even in that case, if I like it, great, one good cigar to add to my list, if I don't, no money out of my wallet) but what makes it look suspect? Like I said, don't mean to beat a dead horse, but just trying to figure out what makes it look fake.

Thanks

Do you see the checkerboard pattern, white black, above the word Cohiba. On your picture there are two rows on an authentic band there should be three rows of white checkers.

True, although I have seen authentic Cohibas with 2 rows or even 4. Very rare but it does happen. Also, that is the old Cohiba band so unless that stick is at least 2 year's old it is fake.

Again, I'm new, but these have been aged so I don't think this is the new style Cohiba band. It has 2 rows of squares above the Cohiba name.

here is the band I am using for reference

old style cohiba band

I am not fast enough, sorry to repeat.

You know what? I was thinking of the new style band. The old style band does normally have 2 rows of squares above COHIBA. I got confused. Sorry about that  Some Cohiba man I am :p

Still, old or new they don't always cut them correctly so it's not a dead giveaway.

Here's hoping yours are real ;)

check to see if there is a "triple cap" there should be 3 layered lines on the lip of the cap.

No it doesn't. It is a place to buy labels, inserts, seals, etc. for scammers. Why are you posting this link everywhere? You already started a specific thread with it in there.

What makes me say they are probably fake is that they were purchased in Mexico... fakes galore there. The only place I would put any modicum of trust in when buying cigars in Mexico would be an official LCDH. Anything else, just don't bother.

My wife picked up some for me when she was in Cancun earlier this year. I told her to go the the LCDH ONLY, which she didn't. The Trini Fundadores tasted real from what I've had before. The Cohiba, however, was fake as hell. My .02 cents.
