Is there such a thing as a "5" ?

I don't know if I've ever smoked a true 5-rated stick. The closest thing to that was a Davidoff Winston Churchill The Late Hour.

Honorable mention goes to recent La Bomba Warhead X and Montecristo Espada.... and a few CC's.

Do I need to readjust my scale ?

What your "5" ?

5 stars?

I've had an AVO22, Cohiba Piramides EL 2001, a 2004 Cohiba Esplendido (from David Sanchez on Fathers Day) and a Padron Millenium. Those 4 stick at the top of my head. The 1998 Trinidad Fundadores are up there too.

Far too many to count. Granted they are rare. I might smoke just a handful or so per year I would rate the highest but it happens regularly. Last couple that come to mind were an ‘02 Punch Ninfas & an ‘01 LGC MdO #1. Oh and a Cohiba Ambar and that was only about a year old.

There was a time when I thought a rating scale of one through five would be sufficient. After hanging out with certain brothers and smoking phenomenal cigars, which put the previous "fives" to shame, I think there is a much bigger scale.

I don't know that I've ever parsed things on a linear point system like that. What would a '4' be on a 5 point scale? I'm not that good at quantifying subjective qualities like that.

That said, first Power Ranger, first Lost City Robusto, first Tat Frank, first GOF Carlito .... those all had serious "Wow!" factor & zero disappointments from nose to nub. But a couple I still think about fondly & can't quite get out of my head would be this Fuente Anejo 55 with a couple years on it I traded for, a 5+ year old perfectly aged Cuban RyJ churchill from a blind tasting contest, and that Padron Black in the CRA sampler.

My "5" was a cuban Davidoff, pulled from a box of said seegars, and enjoyed with a fella we called "@57Strat" Devin Cole. The most unassuming fella I've ever met, and a fantastic fella to share a conversation with. I can honestly say, it'll take a "boomer" to surpass this event.

I wish you well, Devin, and I hope to smoke another seegar, with you, someday. Thanks.

What is wild is 3 of those 4 cigars are in my singles drawer right now (I haven’t seen a LEGIT Cohiba 2001 EL in a looooong time). I only own 1 esplendido at this point too, that box of 04s did its work.

I have had a number of cigars I consider top tier/ 5 star or whatever…. many of them were from Devin. He is the definition of a cool and approachable dude, plus 57strat is a kickass name.

Here's my scale, also 5ish points, based on the question "would I buy this again in the future?"

1.0: Lawn Mulch...hell no!
2.0: Yard Gar... nope.
2.5: Worth Trying... but I wouldn't buy it again
3.0: Very good... maybe?
3.5: Very good- definitely worth having a few
4.0: Very good- Fiver Worthy
4.5: Excellent... box-split to box-worthy
5.0: Outstanding... the thought of the cigar lingers on... only 4 out of roughly 4300 cigars have scored that well

The fives are a Vegas Robaina Unicos, a Ramon Allones Specially Selected, an Illusione Singulare 2010 Phantom, and an Illusione Singulare 2013 Rose Croix. All had at least three years of age on them and all of them made me think, "THIS is why I smoke cigars."
