I remember just about everything in their line having Mexican leaf in it several years ago......Has anything changed with them in that regard? Never was a fan of anything you smoke from Mexico......

Yes it has John, that's what peaked my interest. While it is a subtle change, I thought it was still worth a try.

From CA...
"Cigars have been sold under the Te-Amo name since 1963, and for the lions share of that history Mexican law prohibited them from being made with anything other than tobaccos from that country. Changing times finally allowed the Turrent family to seek out new tobacco leaves and explore new flavors. This Ovalado, which incorporates a bit of Nicaraguan tobacco into a blend that relies heavily on the leaves grown by the Turrents on their farms in Mexicos lush San Andrés Valley, is quite simply the best Te-Amo we have ever smokedand its the least expensive cigar on the entire list. Under the silky wrapper is a rich smoke with a core of leather, coffee and a spicy finish."[/size]
I never knew it was because of Mexican law. Thanks Gary, learned something new. I just figured they weren't very adventurous, or had a certain market they catered to like the Perdomo's.

....don't forget the Murcilago's from Espinoza.  Mexican San Andreas wrapper, Mexican binder, and Nicaraguan filler.  I always thought they were seriously under rated.  They were also unfortunately way overpriced when they were introduced which really hurt their acceptance.  When they went on sale, they were a great deal.  I think I blew through three or four boxes of 'em.
Never tried them Tom, but I trust your judgement if you say you burned through four boxes. ;)

I have to check to see if I have any left...if I do I'll send you a few to try.

Thanks Gary! Really curious to see what your impression on the Te-Amo was if you got to smoke this weekend?

Actually I did and it was very close in flavor to the Murcielago sticks, but with less power....more of a medium profile. As soon as I lit it up it brought me right back to those cigars. This is definitely not a bad cigar IF you like this taste profile. There is absolutely no mistaking the Mexican San Andreas wrapper as it is silky smooth and creamy IMHO. The thing I wasn't crazy about was the format...it was like sucking on a candy bar with that oval shape. It got a little bitter in the second half but I must have re-lit it 5-6 times as I was cooking.

I want to smoke another before I give a definitive opinion because of all the re-lighting...but after the first one, I'd say it's a great yardgar. Not offensive in the least.
