So, my initial experience with CigarBid has not been so great. I ended up bidding on 4 different items, costing me a total of $20. Not bad, However, they charge shipping on each item, which cost me $29.00 total! I got royally screwed on shipping. They threw all the items in one box and it should have cost no more than $9.00.

My second shipment from CB is now lost in the mail; it's been enroute since 9/21. I call CB and they said to take it up with the postal carrier. I do that, and they tell me to talk to the retailer (CB). Looks like I'm going to have a chargeback done to CB and be done with them. While their prices may appear to be good, beware of the shipping charges. That's where they screw you.

I just won my first bid and was expecting to get it today, I think I'll hold my breath now. Thanks for the info.

I have had a good experience with Cigarbid thus far. Your post got me thinking so I checked my last bunch of Cigarbid orders, shipping was as follows:

9/29 - 3 bids won - shipping $7.00
9/8 - 3 bids won - shipping $5.45
8/25 - 4 bids won - shipping $10.50
8/11 - 4 bids won - shipping $6.95

However, I have always used the Shippers Saving Program, which ships only once a week on Thursday. And the shipping charges are always listed as part of the item description so I calculate that into my bid.

Oh well, YMMV...

I am no expert. But, I have found that if you win multiple bids on the same day they will ship together and only one shipping charge. I wouldn't have the variety I do if it wasn't for Cbid.

fat finger spelling edit :whistling:

With Cbid you have to select the consolidated auction shipping in order to get around being charged shipping on each item.

I have had nothing but good experience with Cigar Bid.
I use the Shipping Saver program which consolidates all lots for the week on Thursday.
My last group was $12 shipping and included 3 boxes and 6 5'ers.
I always receive my merchandise on the Tuesday following the week I bid.
Once I found that my package was missing 1 5'er. Customer service had that fixed in 3 days!

Yeah, you can get around the shipping thing, but you're better off just staying away from CBid anyway. I hear they're the devil!

;)

Hey Kevpriest,
Don't give up hope on CB just yet. There might be some things you can do to keep your shipping costs down.

From my own personal experiences I can tell you that I've been dealing with Cigarbid now for at least two months and my cigar ammassment has increased in leaps and bounds since then. Whats great is that they are basically Cigars International but set up in a forum whereby you can get great sticks at some ridiculously cheap prices!!

I used to do exactly what you did and had the first several auctions ship on their own, seperately, and that cost me the amount of at least a 5 cigar sampler. Then I hadn't received one of my shipments (though it came soon thereafter), and when I spoke to the CB operator she suggested that I change my mailing preferences to ship once a week. Since then I don't get charged nearly as much as I did when I was shipping every item seperately, AND they come in one big package of heavenly proportions!

I've never had a parcel lost so I can feel for you and the missing 9/21 package. Don't fret, however, as you might STILL see it soon. Though on the bright side they ARE very fastidious to details, sending me email confirmations when 1) the bid is won 2) the order is processed and 3) when the items are being shipped (usually to within 2 days of when I recieved the shipping notification email). I love that website and do feel sorry that your package has been lost, perhaps even delayed.

For what its worth....
Darren ;)

Yeah...Screw CBid. They have consistantly had later and later delivery times over the last year and some change. I used to get my orders on the Saturday after weekly shipping( Thursday), and now it takes over a week to get here. Screw that.

Cigarauctioneer.com (Famous Smokeshop), IMO has a better selection and more freedom in delivery choices. You can pick what day of the week to consolidate your orders for shipping and I think they have a set guidline for shipping, I don't remember.

Most everyone that starts out using Cigar Bid ends up feeling this way. They are affiliated with CI who will put the screws to you.

It's a shame that everyone doesn't have a local shop near them, that's where I prefer to go.

I live in Southern California, need I say more about local shops?

Cbid pricing holds up what the market demands.

It's a great place to sample many different smokes when you're just starting out tho!

The only way to keep the shipping costs in check is to check the option for once a week shipping - then it's quite reasonable.

It's only reasonable if you bid on LIKE items...Merchandise is a free for all on shipping though. 5'ers only save on other 5'ers. Boxes only save on other boxes.
