Just sent an e-mail newsletter to some patrons of my non-profit park. Basically most Yahoo accounts are coming back with the error message "Temporarily deferred - 4.16.50 Too many recipients".

Basically Yahoo has decided to block any e-mails that are sent to more than a "few" recipients in their attempt to block spam. Defining "few" is hard but basically it appears the server people are saying forget it and encourage your maillist members to dump Yahoo.

Two of the people that were returned were Board members I talk with daily. Basically if you are using Yahoo for e-mail you are now not getting all of your e-mail.

Even though it's a non-profit....I wonder what Yahoo's license says about use, as it's still a business entity. Hmmmmm.

<edit - by the way, this has been happening for some time>

Yahoo is free, but for about $10/month, you can get a domain name hosted and do away with these email problems. PM me if you'd like to go that route, and I'll help you.

you could all go the route of the best webmail out there, Gmail. I am not sure if you still need an invite to become a member, but if you do it would be my pleasure to invite whoever wants to use it. Gmail offers a large amount of storage, so much that your old mail is not deleted, it is just archived.

I was refering that I personally have a yahoo account. The non-profit has it's own domain name, etc. my web page and e-mail is hosted by my local provider.

My problem is in sending e-mail to others with Yahoo accounts. Yahoo delays delivery or stops it cold when you send a bulk e-mail to yahoo e-mail addresses. It reads the multiple addresses (mailing list) and puts it on delayed delivery. Some of them are reportedly never delivered.

It is an apparent problem referenced on the link by other server operators of businesses that send newsletters to bulk subscribers (mailing list). Apparently adding me to their address book no longer works. They are stopping all of them at least temporally. Some mailers are able to get their e-mails through by resending multiple times. This is effective with those providers that "graylist" the e-mails. Graylist means they kill the first one but send on a second send.

I signed up with netaddress back in the late 1990s when it was free. It was full of advertising and banners but that wasn't horrible. Then sometime around 2002 or 2003, they started charging $39.99 a year BUT did away with all the advertising. They keep adding features and making it better.

I know it seems crazy to pay for it but, I've gotten used to the format and layout and I like it. It's also my main email address that everyone in the world has and it's been my mail email address every since I started using the internet.

Now that it's not free, I haven't come across anyone who has a netaddress email address. They seem to cater to businesses now.

I have a Yahoo! one as well but I never really like having the word "Yahoo" as part of my email address. It seems kind of stupid and childish. I never liked "hotmail" either.

netaddress has _____@usa.net as their suffix which looks a whole lot better that "yahoo" or "hotmail" IMO.

There are ways around the multiple addresse blocks too. Use a listserv - a service most providers offer where you can broadcast to a set list. The email arrives with one from and one to. You can also configure listserv so that every subscriber can use it - to discuss topics via email.

My provider has that service. Will have to check into it. Thanks for the idea. Could also create a private Yahoo group.
