I've had this idea floating around in my head for a few years now, but I've never really tried to think it through to a conclusion. I don't think I've ever seen it done to the extent that I'm thinking. But if there's a way it could work I think it would make for a very interesting pass.
Cigars obviously are our primary reason for being here. However two other "vices" that I can think of that most of us enjoy are scotch & bourbon and Coffee. Actually a third category comes to mind, which would include pipe tobacco and premium cigarettes.
So what pitfalls would one need to overcome to pull off a pass where folks were trading for not only cigars, but also for liquor, coffee, pipe tobacco and premium cigarettes? The first and foremost would be how to ship a box full of these things around the country, since there's no way it would be economical or practical. The second question would be if it's ok to trade unlike products, such as an equal value bag of pipe tobacco for a cigar (just one of myriad examples). A third concern would be trying to keep a balance in the pass so in the end the last person still gets to trade for any or all of the content types.
I have an idea for the first issue, shipping. All of the heavier items would simply have vouchers placed in the pass by whoever places them. Then whoever takes the item will just need to get in contact with the owner of said item to arrange for shipping. Would the value of the item placed then include the reasonable cost of shipping it later, or would that need to be considered otherwise? For example, I place a voucher for a 750ml bottle of Black Label. Let's say it cost me $35 and shipping flat rate would be $9. Is an equal put for that bottle another bottle in the $35 range, and the person putting picks up shipping? Or how about they decide to place a $44 cigar, then would it be equal since the cigar won't ever need to be shipped again at a later date?
That's all I feel like writing about this now, let's hear some thoughts from others about this!
