I quit!

I know what you were going thru. I have a management degree and I got layed off from work about 3 years ago and I have been trying to make it working for myself ever since. It's not working out. It's very hard and times are really tough for me. I am still working for myself and making little or no money right now, but I am also trying to find full time work so I can have a career, a steady paycheck and benefits.
For every job that I apply for there are 200 other applicants that sign up for the same job position. Things really suck. Mass education doesn't help anybody who is educated with a college degree anymore when there are 200 other people looking at the same job position.
And they say that the economy is good. That's a bunch of BS. The job market is bad. Most of the jobs that are out there are all dead end and low paying jobs that any idiot out of high school can do. The really good jobs that are out there are very few and you have to either know someone to get them or be very lucky.

Not that anyone really gives a hoot, but I resigned this week. I have receiving guidance from a "career coach". Even though she did not think I should quit before getting another position, I just had to do it. The guy I worked for is a weasle asshole and I did not want to waste any more of my time there. Sorry there is my venting for today. Sooooo.....I have some more time this fall for duck hunting and smoking cigars and a big push to find some other way to be a productive member of society... :D

Been there, done that... It is quite scary, but in my experience it was the right choice. When a person does not like his job, (or the personnel) it makes life miserable. A person should not dread going to work.

Congrats on quitting. I say take the plunge. You seem to be a very resourceful character and I'm confident you'll find something before long.

I'll tell you something... I've seen far too many people rewarded for questionable and weasle-like behaviour and it totally pisses me off. My fiance comes into work on time, stays late, does her work right and is totally responsible and doesn't get recognized or recompensated in any way (in so far as raises go) for doing what she should do. She watches the rest of her co-workers (and I use the term very lightly!) come and go as they please (usually arriving late for work and always leaving early), at times NEVER doing their jobs, and sees them get rewarded for this "mis-behavior".

Its truly sad to see that this countries work ethic has gone down the shitter!

(Hey, now you have more time for some great cigar enjoyment!!!)

Thanks for all the supportive comments. I became a banker after being the CFO for a mid-size manufacturing company for 14 years. Starting in a new career in your late 40's was not the best choice and time being what it is, I thought it would be best to get on with things since I was really not happy with the "banker-boy" choice.

Congrats Golfgar!

I'm one of those unfortunate souls caught up in the rat race. I hate my job, but there's no other job I could take that would pay me what I make now. And I can't afford to make any less.

Hahaha I didn't realize my company had an office in your area, but I also gave my 2 weeks about a week ago and I should have just made it a week. It's amazing that in 6 local offices 8 people have come and gone in less than a year and the "boss" still doesn't have a clue on why? I'm all for hiring from within, but when you make a previous Word Processor a director of an IT dept just because she has been around for 20 years your never gonna get anything done right. Note to self make sure new director knows something about IT FIRST!

Wish you the best i left the army after 12 years in i was over the hump so to speak. But my wife could not take the life anymore i was fortunate enough to find my current job. Change is good and often productive .

The problem is that there are too many educated people with degrees that are looking for the same job positions. Also, companies are not paying a lot of money for positions anymore because there are many people available for each position. The best way to beat this problem is to be able to find something where you work for yourself. Be your own boss and screw working for someone else for peanuts.
