Not that anyone really gives a hoot, but I resigned this week. I have receiving guidance from a "career coach". Even though she did not think I should quit before getting another position, I just had to do it. The guy I worked for is a weasle asshole and I did not want to waste any more of my time there. Sorry there is my venting for today. Sooooo.....I have some more time this fall for duck hunting and smoking cigars and a big push to find some other way to be a productive member of society... :D
 
Congrats! Life is to short to work for weasles! And as for your career coach, it's your life brother. Enjoy yourself.

Played 75 rounds this year so far. Hunting (ducks) has started so that will be my free time focus for the next several months.
 
You have to do whatever it is that makes you want to get up in the morning... if you hate your job, it tends to suck the enjoyment out of everything else. IMO.

Sounds like good news for you and bad news for the ducks!

Congratulations....seriously. I did something similar last year. At 32 years old I realized that I was not going to enjoy my work career. I am lucky enough to have had the support both financially and emotionally to pursue other goals. I graduate with my BS in finance this April and I am so thankful. God doesn't shut a door without opening another. Good Luck...

Sometimes you just have to do something like that. I'm sure it will all work out, it'll give you some quality time with the family. I know a better opportunity will be around the corner for you!
 
It takes courage to do that... I'm sure it will work out well and a year from now, you'll be patting yourself on the back for taking the plunge! :thumbs:
 
I bagged a job with a small company in my hometown and went back to school when I was in my late 20's. A lot of my friends thought I was crazy; felt like it at times. Now, years later with my engineering degree under my belt, my job is great, my future sound, and I could not imagine my life had I not done what I did.

I don't know if there's anything as satisfying as taking your own destiny in hand and making positive changes. The very best of luck to you, golfgar - hope this works out for the very best.

Did the same thing twice in my career.

Worked at a retail sporting goods store in Cincinnati for 18 years. Quit to get into the I.T. field. Started at a job that I just sorta got on-the-job training. Didn't really know much, but they needed the help. :0

My girlfriend at the time said she was moving to Florida with her mom and 2 aunts. Wanted to know if I wanted to come along. So, I quit my job, sold my house and moved. That was in the summer of 1998. Fell into the job I have now in and couldn't be happier.

And we will be married 5 years on March 31th, 2006. Told her I could always wake up on April 1st and say 'April Fool's'. :sign:

Both places I left, I did so for the better. The retail place went out of business less than a year after I left. The I.T. place was sold, about 6 months after I left, and they moved the configuration center and most of the people lost their jobs.

I keep telling the folks I work with now, you don't want me to leave... :sign:
 
I wish I had the same courage. The fellow I work for is the ultimate clown. Unfortunately, jobs at my salary level are not easy to replace and I do not have time to look while still working. One day, I need to make the same leap or else this job is going to kill me.

Good luck man in whatever you decide to do. I did the same thing about three years ago. I loved my job, but hated my in-law situation. Now I live on the other side of the country. I had to quit my job though. With a wife and (3) young daughters, it was tough.
