You just know someone else was counting on winning and then wham.... so sorry, you lose! LOL!

Picked up an item I needed that retails for $189 for 101.50. :D

What what?

Whats sniping? Its when you use a program that will bid an auction for you with just a few seconds to go. Just put in the max amount you would want to bid and the program makes bids only as high as it needs to win. I had put $125 as the max I wanted to bid on this item and apparently the max bid anyone else had was $100.50 so the program bidded 101.50. It does this all in the last 3-5 seconds of the bidding which doesn't allow the other bidders to rebid.

The dumbset thing one can do when bidding on e-bay or any other auction site is to place a bid before the last 20 seconds or so. Anything before that is just running up the bid.

No, I understand what sniping is and I do it regularly what the crap did you win.

Yeah, c'mon Kenny we all know what sniping is and I dunno about you but I knew right away that sym was asking you what exactly was it that you won. Sooooooo...... WTF did you win?

I don't use the automatic programs, I sit there with my watch synchronized and do it manually. I enjoy the "thrill" and there've been quite a few auctions I've won on eBay where my bid went in with one second left ;)

A cat after my own heart...I love to snipe manually too...it's like one minute they're winning and then...*wham*...you loose...

Yea.... I've been hit in the head with a brick...so... what of it? ??? :sign:

Did any of you clowns stop to think that if I wanted you to know what the item was I would have told you in the first post? ;) Damn threadjackers...... read the title. lol I was enjoying the thought of the other bidders sitting there watching the clock tick down....tic toc tic toc.... and then bam, snipe them like Ricky Henderson stealing second base. Prob still sitting there saying WTF.... %&#$*$^#&*$(&$)# SOB.

The item? Hmmmm, I'll throw you a bone and say there will be some ducks that wished I didn't win it. ROFLMAO!

Ahhhhh, sniping! The whole and entire reason I upgraded to a cable modem! Nothing like getting that win with 2 seconds left to go... my personal best! :)

damn computer lockups.. time to reload it. Sorry for double post y'all!

So you were the SOB that beat me out of that item!

Doesn't this policy (quoted below) prevent sniping on C'Bid?

"All CigarBid auctions close at the posted time if there has been no bidding activity in the last five minutes. If there is bidding activity, the auction will remain open until five minutes have passed without a bid. Therefore, auctions may remain open after the posted closing time. The bidding can be very fast-paced during this period."

That one rule is one of the reasons Cigarbid gets people to pay more than retail a lot of the time. We're all raised to "win" at everything we do and the competitive nature comes out to "win" the bid. Put a dummy in the mix with more money than brains and he'll proudly announce how he "won" the bid but refuse to admit to himself how much he overpaid. Pretty typical...

If you're going to bid at Cbid you need to know the price you could pick up the same cigar elsewhere. I wouldn't waste my time if I couldn't save a min of 15% after shipping. The old saying "Know when to hold em and know when to fold em" applies here.

To answer your question..... yes, that policy effectively wipes out any advantage of using a sniper.
