So, I'm getting ready to own a house on an island. My neighborhood streets will be impassable when the rain hits us full force. Since I will be bored off my ass, and no telling when I will be able to leave, let's have some fun with this weather bullshit.
Here's a little contest for a fiver of my soon to be over-humidified cigars.
1) How many days will Harvey drop rain on Houston?
2) How many inches of rain will Houston get out of Harvey?
(let's use official rainfall totals from IAH as the rain gauge, beginning with this time stamp 25 Aug 2:01 pm)
3) How many days will my power be out?
Now, take your guess for each question above and add them together.
Example: 40 days of rain + 75 inches of rain + 15 days of no power = 130
Rules:
*You must show your work. No random numbers will be accepted.
*One entry per member in good standing with more than a month of membership.
*Assholes welcome, mostly because we all are and those that aren't are just in denial.
***Closest guess without going over wins***
Contest opens now, as it just started raining.
Last entry is 1500 CDT (UTC -5) on 27 August 2017.
Winner will be determined after rain stops and power comes back on. I have no idea when that will be, as it could take several weeks to get everyone back on the grid.
If you feel like using some sleuthing skills to see what these kinds of storms do to my area, Wiki has some good entries on our previous storms.
Tropical Storm Allison.
Tax Day Flood 2016.
Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Ike.
Needless to say, we're mildly worried about water in the house.
Also, I will NOT be sending out any cigars that, God forbid, get damaged in any way, shape, or form. If I wouldn't smoke it, I don't expect you to, either.
Good luck everyone, and send some positive vibes this way.
