Whoa, hold on a minute. It takes much longer than 6 hours for the salt test to give reliable results in most people's experience. Give it at least 12, go for 24 if you can. It seems strange that it can take that long, but that has been my experience.
Also, you are not wetting the salt enough to cause it to be present in the evaporate from what I have been told. I've heard both sides of the do/do not salt test digitals. The do nots say they are concerned with long term damage, nothing noticeable after 6 hours worth of exposure. I think they're more worried about the accuracy of their units. I've talked with several people who have salt tested their digitals and have had zero problems, even long-term. I've salt tested all of mine in the past and have seen no ill-effects for over a year. Now I use beads because it is more reliable.
If your worried about the salt, get some beads and use those. There is absolutely no way those will damage anything and they're more reliable. Or you can even get the Boveda pack if you don't want to spring for the beads. (You'll likely be buying the beads eventually if you hang around internet boards for very long.)
Stay calm, give your salt test some more time, make sure you don't get any water from the salt container on your hygro, and try to relax a little. After all, that's likely why you smoke cigars.
