After looking at some of the humidors that were crafted by the members of this forum, it inspired me to make one. I am a woodworker and I am fortunate to have a workshop with all the proper tools. After doing some research on the internet, I have come to the conclusion that some of the cabinet type humidors for sale are cheaply made. In fact, if you go to a furniture stores, you will see that the products are made out of mdf or fiber wood. Also, a lot of furniture is massed produced. A well made cigar cabinet(600 to 800 sticks), made by hand would go well beyond 1,500 dollars.
I am thinking about an ice box design, perhaps made out of oak, peacan or maple. The inside will be line with 3/4
Spanish cedar. The Carcass would be constructed of 1/2 inch solid wood. I have some misquite lumber that I have been saving for some time, and I also think Misquite will make a nice outward appearance. I make my furnitre the "plane" old fashion way and all dovetails will be done by hand. I also like to mill my wood and I usually start with 4/4 and in wome cases 5/4 lumber. I think this is going to be a fun project.
