:) I recently bought a small pack of ISOMs. I was so stoked to finally try a ISOM. Well, one of the cigars had a split very close to the head. Dang. It has been very, very hot and humid in WI lately. I've had this happen to a Monte sampler from Altadis also. :0

Normally I would just toss it and move on, but these are a special treat for me and I'm not used to spending $10 a stick, so....

What is the best way to salvage the stick? I doubt I could cover the split with my finger when smoking (I've done that before). Do I just cut off the head past the split? No cap or anything would be left. I'm sure the stick would fall apart. ???

Anyway, give me your ideas on some cigar first aid for now and in the future!!

You could try cutting off past the split head, but that might cause the cigar to unravel. Any cigar that I encounter which has a split, like you're describing, or wrapper that is unravelling, I use pectin to repair it. Pectin is what they use in jelly and can be found at your grocery store. I always have some on hand in my fridge. It works very well and so far, I haven't been able to taste any difference in the cigar. The only negative is that you ought to rest the repaired cigar for a while (week or two) to allow it to completely dry. Good luck!

Thanks for the help, gents. I've already cut the head off a Partagas that was beat up. It was fine until it got moist. FYI, Partagas do not double as chewing tobacco :0

I'll try the pectin. Sounds like a easy fix.

Thanks for the link to the other post. I did search, just not well enough I guess. Steve-o, thanks for the hint on not trying all the fixes in the link.

Well, here's to stoogie first aid, I'd hate to lose a patient ;)
