Home Humi Humidity Level Problems

Easiest way I know of to find out if your humidor has a lousy seal is to double bag it in plastic for 48 hours. Trash bags should work fine if you don't have big enough ziplocks. Put your humidor in bag #1, and seal it up tight (tie a knot in the bag). Put the whole show in bag #2 and do the same thing - seal it up tight. Wait 48 hours. if the RH shoots up, you can be pretty sure you have a seal issue.....

Good Luck - B.B.S.

Thats what I wanted to hear..... just making sure it wasn't one of the mechanical dials. Digitals are for the most part consistent. If its calibration is off high or low it will usually stay off high or low.

Allow the salt test to continue. I'd wait at least until tomorrow morning myself before making my next move.

OK, will do

Until Tuesday...

Tuesday night at 5pm I replaced the 50/50 solution with 100% distilled water. 17 hours the humidity level is back up to 69% :D . This figure is more close to 66% since my hygromter is off by 2-3 percentage points.

I will not open the humidor for at least another 24-36 hours to see how it levels out. Based upon all of the great feedback from you guys I think I figured out the problem. Hopefully it''ll be back to normal by the weekened. I'll keep you posted

Thanks to everyone for ALL of the advice and help

I'm going to take a guess that you had 100% 50/50 solution. Glycerine is the regulator, much like Viper/beads, it will regulate to a certain RH. When he added straight distilled water, it reduced the percentage of glycerine in the solution. Less regulator = higher RH.

So beads have glycerine and a little man inside of them? DAMN thats what all the hype is about.

Yepper - 100% 50/50 solution

Where is the best palce to buy those beads? My humi holds approx 75 cigars. How much of hte beads do I need?
