Hockey

The playoff beard has officially been started. I'm glad to see the Kings will play Vancouver and not Phoenix or Chicago. Hopefully I will not have to shave anytime in the coming two weeks. :D

Ouch

And not just a helmet but the visor is really bad. I've seen some (notably Iginla) take off the entire helmet if they wear a visor. No one should fight with a visor on but if each guy has a helmet on at least it's fair versus only one guy wearing a helmet.

Shawn Thorton asked Cooke to remove his helmet and the coward refused. Thorton promptly ripped it off his head.

Didn't shave yesterday and won't shave until the Kings are holding the cup or eliminated. Hopefully the former. GO KINGS GO!!! KILL, JACK, KILL!!!

Has anyone else noticed that 7 out of the 8 teams in the west have over 100 points? Also to note that those same teams have all lost less than 30 games!! WOW I think that is amazing. I do not think that has happened in a very long time. Unfortunately my Avs are the only one of the 8 not in that category, but are at least in the playoffs.

That's always good news for those of us who have teams in the East. Often by the time a team in the West, which by all accounts should dominate a play off series based on season points, makes it to the final they are exhausted by playing such good teams 6 or 7 games a round on top of all that travel. It's one of the reasons Detroit wants to badly get in the East. They might have 5 or 6 Cups in a row if they'd been in the East.

That's got to hurt. On a side note players that fight with their helms on make me :(

Couldn't agree more. Like RG said, if it is two fellas wearing a helmet and fighting then fine, but take it off if you have got a visor as well.

I think the refs can give an addition penalty to a person who starts a fight and that has a visor. Lets not flame me on this comment . I could swear hearing this from watching a hockey game a few years ago and would not be surprised. I think it is one of the obscure rules that no one really knows of until it is acutely used.

It would have been nice if the Av's could have pulled it off so that all the teams would be at 100+ points. Sadly both the Av's and the Kings are younger and hopefully the inexperience will not hurt the teams chances. On another note how exciting was the last day of the regular season for the Eastern Conference teams? Pretty crazy race to shore up the last three spots for the playoffs.

Rule 47.6 states:

Face Protection – If a player penalized as an instigator of an altercation is wearing a face shield (including a goalkeeper), he shall be assessed an additional unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Should the player (including a goalkeeper) who instigates the fight be wearing a face shield, but removes it before instigating the altercation, the additional unsportsmanlike conduct penalty shall not apply.

You're right, but only if the player with the visor is given an instigator penalty first.

I''m sitting here patiently awaiting the draft lottery; fantasizing about a Savard-Taylor Hall combination.

Doc.

BRUINS GET NO. 2. THANK YOU TORONTO.

Which should mean Taylor Hall as the Oilers need to build around a two way centerman.
Doc.

Oh Burkie, Burkie, Burkie. You never trade away a high pick if your plan is to rebuild.

I'm sure he never thought it would be this high of a pick when he traded for Kessel.

He's probably going to be hitting the phones pretty hard trying to get a high pick for Kaberle though. I'm just glad the proposed Jeff Carter/Kaberle trade never went through 2 years ago!

I think he figured two 10 - 20th picks and a 2nd rounder for Kessel would be okay, so much for that.

I think so far the trade is still okay for Toronto albeit great for Boston. The real test will be next years draft. If Boston gets a top 10 pick from the Leafs then it was a failure by Burke for sure, if the pick is after 10 or so then I still think it's an okay deal for Toronto. Regardless, the Bruins clean up.

I'd take Kessel back in a hear beat. Neither he nor Savard have been as good as they were as when they were together. Those two guys needed each other.

Thank you for the clairifcation and the research Rual Guy!

Sadly I can not comment on the draft. All I know is that it will be held in LA this year. Do not really know the talents that is out there. I'm just gald to e able to watch the Kings past the regualr season. Eight years is a long LONG time to wait. What to fast forward to tomorrow and watch the Kings game!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jonesy, I should have added some Leafs gear. I'm sure Doc wouldn't have minded after getting the 2nd pick.
