So I'm driving home from the office this evening, and as usual, traffic is about as backed up as a peanut butter turd. We're talking stop and go for miles.
So at one particular sudden stop, I look in my rear view mirror to make sure the lady behind me stops, which she does. However, I see her get SLAMMED from behind by a truck. Nothing too major, but enough to cause a little whiplash by the look of it.
So she pulls over into the center divider and gets out of her car to look at the damage. Meanwhile, the guy who hit her (who we shall call, Asshole), proceeds to flee from the scene.
Little did he know, I witnessed the whole thing.
Even littler did he know that I was now following him with the cell phone dialing 911 to report his ass.
First I get a 911 message, in english and spanish, telling me that if it's an emergency, press 1. Otherwise, wait on the line. I'm thinking, "This may not be considered an emergency since no one was shot or laying dead on the street." I continue to wait for over three minutes listening to this message until they finally just hang up on me.
So I call back and this time I shout, "ONE! ONE YOU....YOU NON-RESPONSIVE EMERGENCY PEOPLE!"
Even though I was now on the emergency queue, I still had to wait 3 minutes before the lady came on the line. She sounded like I just woke her up from a nice, little hibernation. All that was missing from her cadence was a yawn and perhaps that early morning fart that I so fondly look forward to.
I proceed to report all the information to her, giving her the guys license plate and car description. The Asshole even had his company name and phone number imprinted on a logo displayed on the back of his tailgate! (Don't do business with "Weatherproofing Technologies, Inc.")
And that was all.....He ended up turning off the freeway on a different exit, and I now have the satisfaction of knowing (i.e. HOPING) that Karma is going to catch up to this prick and he will get whats coming to him.
He could have done the responsible thing and pulled over, but now that he's fled the scene, it's a criminal offense, and I hope he gets tracked down and punished.
I love Karma, and even though there was nothing in it for me, I know that I did the right thing and that's all that matters.
