I got a 5-pack of these cigars online for $27.50 and free shipping.
So, I'm smoking one this morning, and it's quite nice.

I looked them up online - and the MSRP is $500 for a 15-pack. Whaaaaaat ? Who sets these prices ? The discount online price is $200 for a 15-pack. Still surprised.

Buying cigars is starting to remind me of shopping for a mattress. You know - they're always on sale. I've never seen a matress place where they weren't having a fire sale. Just sayin'.

In the mean time, I ordered a bundle of Phillipine Churchills for cheap. Good "moocher" cigars, according to the reviews.

That's exactly how Gurkha runs their business. Which is why once you learn to appreciate good cigars, you'll never smoke another Gurkha again. Quality control is horrible, pricing structure is horrible, and cigars not normally horrible. If you like them great, but just remember they run their business like the old school mail order CD companies. Never buy them unless they are 90% off or more.

For what its worth, I didn't even need to scroll down to see the brand, just reading what you said was enough.

You know how they say - you get what you pay for. Well in case of Gurkha most of the time even though n these cray sales you might be getting less value than what you paid for them. That is of course if you compare the quality and flavor to other similarly priced cigars.

Not sure if you got in on the newbie sampler deal or not. It’s a great way to try quality cigars for less than they actually go for most of the time.

Also just let us know what you enjoy in a cigar: strength, size, flavors, country of origin, wrapper. Be as specific or as general as you want and you will get plenty of advice on what you should try. We can also point you in the right direction for where. Shop and what to look for ( outside of Cubans )

Look, many of us started out with the CI bundles, so nothing wrong with that. However, take a look through the Daily Smoke thread, and start buying fivers to try out (or even singles, if you find someplace selling that way) of whatever piques your interest. Also, I personally recommend getting away from CI -- there are so many other better online retailers out there. Check out Cigar Page, to start with. And, as said, get in on the Newbie Sampler.

To be brutally honest, most of those cigars in the CI "Po' Boy Samplers" aren't even worth the tobacco used for the wrappers. They are utter shit, plain and simple. I said it before that many of us started this way, so don't take this as a knock against you, personally. Grow your palate, your interests, and your knowledge (and shrink your bank account)!

We're pretty rural, but there's a "cigar bar" in a small, old, formerly bank building. The vault is their little walk-in humidor.
Great selection of cigars, spirits, wine, and beer. Belly up to the bar, get a drink - and smoke a cigar. I usually pick out a ten dollar stick. Give or take. Of course, their cigars are priced as MSRP. Still, it's a good place to visit, now and then. Been collecting the bands off of the ones that I like.

So far, I like the mellow to medium cigars, in the larger ring sizes.

Well, except this one. I was sure that I would hate this one. It just looked too dark for me, but I was pleasantly surprised.



Right now, what I know about cigars would fit into a thimble. I did manage to get a couple humidors up and running.
Sharing some sticks with the locals.

I'm a slow learner. This may take a while.
