Has anybody seen this?

Just my two cents, not that it matter.

Some of use don't have the luxury of having a nice well stocked B&M close enough to supply our needs. I am luck in that I have one with in walking distance of my home, and another that is accessable while I, um.."work". That being said, the closest offers a limited selection of high-end cigars, but offers many daily smokes at twice the price of many on-line retailers. The other has a larger selection, but again price is higher. I long to taste one of the X000's Padron Maduro's but can't get my hands on them locally. Other than fellow BOTL on CP I am left with no recourse, but to buy from on-line vendors.

Yes, I understand that customer service is sacrificed to keep price low, but in reality I usually buy cigars that are on the cheaper end of the spectrum from such places. As such, my expectations are relatively low. It's the nature of the beast, any larger on-line retail has more stock and more consumers and there for more problems are to be expected.

My question is, how did a post about a good deal on a sampler turn into a huge debate on who a person should buy from? I think it's a great deal (IMO) and I thank Step for putting it out there. Thanks for the heads up Jim.

Damn straight, I ain't buying no cigars from those despicable Holt's. From now on I'm buying my cigars from a murderin' Commie bastid.

Doc.

This is actually a very interesting discussion and most of the opinions expressed here have been thoughtful and respectful. I have learned quite a bit about how to interact on the board (which I have been known to be terrible at) with cooth. It seemed like a great deal on a couple smokes that have been very difficult to acquire for some. Thanks to all who have offered feedback!

Jim

If anyone is interested you can PM me and I'll let you know how my experience with them went. I purchased 2 sets (mentioned in earlier post) and since this is my first order with them I'd be happy to report back to anyone who is interested. I'd like to keep it out of the forum and not start a new thread.

Yeah, I kinda hijacked this thread and got it off topic. I still think it's a good deal, even though I haven't pulled the trigger on it. I appreciate you bringing it to our attention.

I'm still learning how to interact with cooth, and have stepped in it on a couple of occassions. I never mean disrespect to anyone, although sometimes I come across as quite the asshat.

I don't have a local shop at all (the one place that actually has cigars is absolutely awful). I buy almost everythig online when it comes to cigars, pipes, and pipe tobacco. I am able to do so without using any of the "big guys" by supporting those that support CP.

I really couldn't care less where others buy their cigars, but you don't have to buy from the "big guys" to buy online or to find good pricing. You don't have to put up with the sacrifice of service.

There are at least 2 vendors who are active on CP that have better prices on Padron x000 series cigars than any of the "big guys" as an example.

I'll name names........
Al (Puffnstuff), Norcalmark from Tower Cigars, UptownIsy from Uptown Cigar, Gabriel from Sabor, Mindriot from Silocigar, Brad and the whole gang at the Outlaw. Plus some others I'm sure I forgot (Sorry if some spelling is wrong fellas, didn't look it all up).
These are the shops who not only frequent here, but are active members/brothers as well. They all ship, and or have online retail too. These are the people I'm glad to spend my money with, and support their buisnesses.

Just to clarify...

The issue with Holts that is referenced in the thread does not pertain to their customer service. It pertains to a write up they placed into one of their advertisements regarding a respected cigar maker. I'm too lazy to find and post the link, but you can search it out if interested.

I wasn't trying to get everyone all riled up. I have looked at those brothers mentioned and will soon be making a purchase from one or the other. All I really meant was with the "big guy" name comes proceived value. Granted most of the "freebies" are lack luster, but everyone loves getting something for nothing.

Sorry if my two cents was taken the wrong way.

Nobody got riled up. It is possible to have a discussion, perhaps even a debate without getting pissy. We each make value choices every day based on any number of criteria. Ford or Chevy. Target or WalMart. When a Brother posts negative info in a deal thread involving Holt's, he's not saying you can't buy, he's offering information on which you can make a decision. Of course, if you buy anyway, you're a shit.

Unless you share the cigars with us :whistling:

I don't see the need for any apology. :)

As far as the "freebies" go, you NEVER get something for nothing...

I agree with these guys, no need to apologize. Good debate is fun, and useful. With as many users as we have here there is going to be disagreements and debate.

Heck, I disagree with jfields here, but if he showed up at my door today I would hand him a beer and a cigar. Of course, once both his hands were full I would kick him the nuts.
