Thanks for all the congratulations and well wishes. I wasn't going to post anything but the little lady that has supported me through initiation though otherwise.

The Coast Guard did away with FT's and the ET rateing absorbed the FT's. The RM rating was done away with a while back as the Guard became dependent on computers. So RM's became TC's (Telecommunication Specialists) and later the RD (Radarman) rating went away when RD's were combined with TC's to become OS's (Operational Specialists). So basically you have RM's and RD's combined into the OS rating. It actually does both rates a service by allowing for faster advancements and more billets to chose from.

By the way, I have had the crooked finger of a Chief for a few years now.

Gawd, I was fluent in Morse to about 30WPM. I remember getting my ass handed to me by a Coastie on a buoy tender (our transit buddy) as we did a little burn off during a transit in the Hood Canal (10-12hrs from pier to open sea). I wonder if they bother to teach the code in either service now.
 
Congratulations Chief!! I only wish I knew enough about Naval uniforms to read all the info. It looks good!! :thumbs:

We shut down morse code operations back in the early 90's if I remember correctly. I know for a fact it hasn't been taught in "A" school since shutting it down.

We get a lot of sh1t from our Navy brothers and sisters who don't know any better. But those who have trained with Coasties and those who have operated with Coasties know better than to blindly run off at the mouth. I have several ideas why Coasties often match up better than their counterparts in the other services, but I think most veterans here are too biased toward their service to see where I am coming from. I have a lot of respect for all uniformed services, except for maybe NOAA :whistling:
