My Gurkha Cherry popped:

Last week I placed my first major order for cigars. I selected a box of Gurkha Regent Toros among a few other products.

It was a very pleasant experience yesterday opening up the shipping carton to find a well-appointed box inside. Upon opening the lid I found two trays filled with beautifully constructed cigars. I forced myself to be content with fondling each one as I lay it in my humidor. I tried to be strong, but I only made it to post-lunch today before I broke down and tried one.

Pre-light: Construction was well executed. The wrapper was straight and clean. I used a double-bladed guillotine that sliced neatly through the cap. The draw was powerful, and the sweet notes of cocoa powder brought back childhood memories of mom in the kitchen baking on Sundays.

Lighting: It took me two matches to fully ignite this stick. Of course, I was cursed with quick-burning matches that were more intent on scorching my fingers than rendering any aid in my pursuit. I pressed on in spite of the threat of 2nd degree burns. Once lit, the foot quickly sprouted a whitish-gray halo and settled into a pleasing symmetrical burn.

The smoke: I have not been blessed with a large amount of high-quality cigars to this point, and those that I have tried were days to remember. The Gurkha Toro proved itself to be a worthy addition to that short list. The notes of cocoa ruled the day, going from light chocolate to dark as it progressed. A faint hickory taste joined in for the last half. The cigar drew easily, and volumes of clean white smoke poured out with every exhale. I never experienced any harshness or tightness. The cigar burned perfectly and stayed lit even during long pauses. The lingering aftertaste is a mixture of the mentioned dark cocoa and a hint of deep coffee drank black.

Overall: I was completely pleased with this cigar, and I would put it in the top 5 of cigars I have tried to this point. I am already eagerly planning excuses to smoke the rest.

Cheers!

Dan

A they say..... smoke em, if you got em!

Nice review.

I have bought a lot of Gurka's, thank you CBID :p on a more serious note, golfgar really got me into them with the Legend Anniversero's he sent in my nublet sampler, so he is to blame :)

Being the boards current Gurkha whore I place the Regents in the upper half of the Gurkhas available. Once you try any of the 8 year old ones, the Regents son't seem as good for some reason.

Nice review, I also recently had the pleasure of smoking a Gurkha Regent. It was definitely a different cigar for me, as I was smoking it I couldn't nail down exactly what I was tasting only knew that I really liked it. After reading your review I think I may have to pick up a few more.

That's basically how I would rate them, except I have never had a 1940's Double Corona, Aged Cameroon, or Master's choice Toro Maduro.

Gurkha regent was my first strong good cigar.

I think your review was very good.

I love all the Gurkha smokes, right now I have one humidor filled to the top with just Gurkha.

I buy all of them on cbid. I have been able to buy them in 5 packs for as little as $18. The Gurkha Doble Maduro Toro I have been paying about $24-$28 a five pack.

If you enjoy the regent you will really enjoy the Double maduro toro. Right now its my favorite smoke next to TTT Trinidad Belicoso.

Here is a link on a good deal for now.

Anyone else see a problem? :sign:

Scum rises to the top too.

Had another of these delicious smokes the other day. One thing that got my attention was although it had a robust, full-bodied, complex flavor it lacked any pepper spice. That is a huge plus to me when I want a real relaxing smoke.

I also noted wood tones. Just great. Mine was a robusto. Never got harsh even when eventually nubbed but full of flavor throughout.

The review and comments that folowed was so good I went ahead and ordered some.

I've been curious about these cigars for some time. You've made me want to hunt them down and try a few. Thanks for the review.

I'm a pretty serious Gurkha whore as well. The Regents are one of my favorites. I don't think I've found a K. Hansotia stick I don't like. Recently bought some of the G. Khan's and they are good too.

I'm going to buy from AVB's list as the one's near the top of his list I haven't had an opportunity to sample yet.

I also like Indian Tabac, so what do I know.

Love the legends and the regents,I like the legends more.
Have not tried the centurian x's or the master selects or any of the older ones.
The dbl maduro is good too.
I have had a lot of the lighter ones like the expedition and boer.
