My Gurkha Cherry popped:
Last week I placed my first major order for cigars. I selected a box of Gurkha Regent Toros among a few other products.
It was a very pleasant experience yesterday opening up the shipping carton to find a well-appointed box inside. Upon opening the lid I found two trays filled with beautifully constructed cigars. I forced myself to be content with fondling each one as I lay it in my humidor. I tried to be strong, but I only made it to post-lunch today before I broke down and tried one.
Pre-light: Construction was well executed. The wrapper was straight and clean. I used a double-bladed guillotine that sliced neatly through the cap. The draw was powerful, and the sweet notes of cocoa powder brought back childhood memories of mom in the kitchen baking on Sundays.
Lighting: It took me two matches to fully ignite this stick. Of course, I was cursed with quick-burning matches that were more intent on scorching my fingers than rendering any aid in my pursuit. I pressed on in spite of the threat of 2nd degree burns. Once lit, the foot quickly sprouted a whitish-gray halo and settled into a pleasing symmetrical burn.
The smoke: I have not been blessed with a large amount of high-quality cigars to this point, and those that I have tried were days to remember. The Gurkha Toro proved itself to be a worthy addition to that short list. The notes of cocoa ruled the day, going from light chocolate to dark as it progressed. A faint hickory taste joined in for the last half. The cigar drew easily, and volumes of clean white smoke poured out with every exhale. I never experienced any harshness or tightness. The cigar burned perfectly and stayed lit even during long pauses. The lingering aftertaste is a mixture of the mentioned dark cocoa and a hint of deep coffee drank black.
Overall: I was completely pleased with this cigar, and I would put it in the top 5 of cigars I have tried to this point. I am already eagerly planning excuses to smoke the rest.
Cheers!
