Anyone tried one of these? I lit my first one up this evening and am wondering if i got a weird one...ive heard of hints or notes of leather, but this thing tasted like i was chewing on a peice of rawhide from a leather jacket. Very acidic and leathery would be putting it mild!! The smoke itself didnt taste too weird...it was more of the wrapper itself and the aftertaste it left on your lips. It wasnt a bad smoke after it mellowed out a bit, but are they all like this or did i get a dud?? ???

I've smoked a couple of those in the past and never had the experience. I'm pretty much a Gurkha fanatic and have had many in my time. Sounds like your experience might have been clouded by something you ate or drank before (or during?). Also, could have been a bum cigar out of the lot.

I say wait a couple of weeks and try another and see how you feel then.

For the most part, Gurkhas are consistently tasty and delicious to my peculiar pallette.

I smoked one of these during poker last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't recall the specifics of the experience, just that it was very enjoyable.

It could be that you got a bad one, or that it just isn't a good smoke for you. I hate root beer, but that's just me!

"Doble" ???

I guess we can't make you a moderator after all, ya gotta know how to spell. ;)

No, I think he is right, that is how it is spelled on the label and on CI's website. ;)

I agree. I have never had a Gurkha I didn't like. I'm not crazy about Boers, but I don't dislike them either.

if you like gurkhas you should check out cigars international weekly special. centurions for a real sweet price!

I put my order in last night. Out of all the Gurkhas I have tried those are my favorite .

I've gone through at least 20 of the DMs without having the problem you mentioned. Give it another try and if it is still not to your liking I'll trade you for the rest.

Just bought another cylinder of centurions and 12 ledgends from CI, my personal two favorites.

Sorry to bring up an old thread.....but I am just finishing up my first Gurkha and it happens to be the Doble Maduro. What a great Cigar! Medium in body, it smokes smooth and tasty. Excellent aroma and big clouds of smoke.

I highly recommend these to anyone who is at least interested in trying one.

Does anyone know if they sell boxes, or just the mazos like on CI?

The DOBLE maduro is the only Gurkha I've been able to stomach. Nice smoke. Looks like you have a shot at being a moderator anyway.

Since my earlier post in this thread, these have become a staple in my cigar arsenal. One of the smokes I always keep on hand. I love 'em.

I had a couple of these before gifted to me by a family-friend and they were just an absolute pleasure. If I could afford Gurkha cigars more often I would purchase them on a regular basis. I haven't had one that wasn't short of excellent.

All Gurkhas are cheaper at CI or it's evil twin, cigarbid, which just happens to not have any right now - I checked

bump to vortex

also since Gurhka X furete was my very first full body smoke ever, my first sampler was the med-full and I bought another 15 of the "master selects" for $20 on CI.

CI also has these "dobles" 15 for $49.95 right now, I had my eye on them, but after finally smoking one this weekend, I realize I don't need 15 of these, they are a good smoke, but not much better IMO than the "selects" (the selects really haven't won me over yet?) and I think the "X furete" is alot better, I have about 9-10 of the furete.

One thing that really draws me to Gurhka is that cool label, I'll admit that!!! but I hear the "black puros" are excellant! they will nap in the humi for allittle bit though before I find out, I'm looking forward to smoking one!!!

the "gurhka" experiance-

now that I have a solid 10+months of cigar collecting, aging, and taste I can offer a more confident opinion on "gurhkas".

I'm still drawn to that cool label!!!

the price on auction is wonderful!!!

after some time in the humi they taste great!!! (I don't get anal about storage eithier, I don't use a those meters, I just keep 2-3 humi paks and replace when dried up, keep in basement during summer, a 150count humi)

class regents- turned out to be one of my favs. as far as a non-maddie, always keep stocked (need to try a warrior)

master selects- very good, but probilly will not purchase again

centurian perfecto- same as master select

royal bridgade- same as master/centurian (only smoked one sofar) will keep buying (they look nice in the display humi)

x-furete- still one of my favs. (same as 5-vegas seris A) will always stay stocked, very cool label

black puro- better than x-furete, geat taste!!!

symphony- good for change most likey get more

gold- taste good, some strength, I like 'em!

titan/beast - taste the same, not any better than the above really, too pricey

legand- much stronger than the titan and beast, and cheaper, want more of these!!!

only construction issue I've had was x-furete, and royal bridgade, have had alot of plugging with the selects, and a bad plug with a titan.
