Goose Island being bought by AB

Just saw this on the news. the owner of Goose Island said that he would never have sold if quality was going to be compromisied. I really would hate to see this brewery turn into Bud Lite! :whistling:

I've always thought Goose Island was ripe for the picking.

The brewmaster also stepped down and was replaced by a former brewmaster of Deschutes which also makes extremely good beer. I don't see GI turning into anything bad...in fact they may start brewing even better stuff. Bourbon County is one of my favorite barrel aged stouts so I hope they don't screw with that one. Hopefully they'll finally be able to brew enough to send to TX...

I dunno, I'm a bit skepitcal. From what I heard AB turned Rolling Rock into a shell of it's former self. Wouldn't suprise me to have the same done to GI. As long as quality people are in charge of brewing, things should be okay.

Anytime an independent smaller company gets bought out by a huge conglomerate, I worry.

A lot to be said for 38 million...and larger distro

Don't believe the hype. It won't be the same, they just want to pump more beer out. The final Busch person on the board is stepping down also.

A good example of that was when AMF bought out Harley Davidson way back when. What a disaster that was.

Looks like the brew pubs will remain the same, which is where the good stuff really is. It was only a year or two ago that they were going to be priced out of their lease by their landlord. I think it was the economic downturn that saved them. I think their landlord realized they were the best option rather than condos. Probably a very smart move to be able to afford the rent. Just a shame to see the big boys buying up the brewpubs. Course Budweiser is smart enough to buy what they can't rpoduce.

Someone in a St. Louis boardroom envisioned 312 taps everywhere there was a Blue Moon tap. It's a good move for Budweiser.
