GOD HELP ME!

Thanks for the info folks. Feeling a little better today. Took some time off after work to go lay down some moss killer in the yard of the new house we bought. Yard work has a calming effect on me. Gives me a chance to let the mind wander freely and de-stress. Fortunately the new house is situated on a .35 acre lot, so there's LOTS of yard work!

Anywho, getting on the same page as far a discipline seems to be the problem with my wife and I. I always seem to be playing the heavy in these situations. I have never yelled or raised a hand to my daughter in her life, but last night I sure had the urge to give her a good swat on the butt and send her to her room!

The biggest problem these days centers around dinner time. She absolutely refuses to eat what we're eating for dinner. She always wants something else. I am finding it very difficult to get on the same side of the fence with the wife on this one, but I think we're at least moving closer to resolution. I sure as hell hope she grows out of it.

Dinner is normally at nightmare at my house as well. Very tough to get kids to eat, well at least eat healthy. Unfortunately my kids are all like I was as a kid, very picky eaters. Oh well, I'm sure they'll grow out of it.

I am not PC about this at all. There is a difference between corporal punishment and beating your kid. For dinner I was brought up to eat what was put on the table, when it was put on the table or go to bed hungry. That only needs to happen two or three times and that problem should be solved.

Sometimes there is no improvement over old school.

This is so funny, I was just talking to my son, 18 years old now, the other night about the two only times I "made him" eat what was on his plate. I had always believed in "old school" so I was going to do it my way this one particular night 12 years ago. My Ex was always very new school and I was tired of fighting over food at the dinner table so I was going to do it my way now. I made zucchini and my son was not going to eat it, after some discussion with my Ex she let me do it my way. My son told me "Daddy, I can't eat it ... it makes me throw up". No excuses tonight buddy boy! so there it goes ... zucchini in the mouth and the gagging begins. No way, he's faking it! finish it. Well, he ate the first piece and I think choked down another piece when I finally gave in to new school.

ditto AVB...you ate or you starved, very easily understood by a kid. and i got a few whacks when i was a kid, and i turned out fine (least that what i have been told :p )
half the problem today is the "time out" crap, my niece and nephew get that and they look at it as time to go to their room and watch t.v. (can't stand my brother and sister-in-law for that), nothing like a "spank" to set a kid in the right direction. i have seen the b.s. my brother puts up with
i do not have children yet, but the wife and i are planning on a few starting in the next year or so.
