Giving up cigars...

You're in the first trimester aren't you?

Put em to sleep and revisit the situation later. At the very least, hang on to your very best. Funds to buy expensive cigars will be harder to find this time next year.

A noble choice! Might I offer an alternate choice? Close your humidors and put them someplace cool and wait for a year, periodically check RH. If you decide cigar smoking is okay you will have some sticks with more age. If not, you can always sell them later.

Either way, congrats on the pending arrival.

I was thinking the same thing. Hang onto them, have one on a special occasion, and keep the rest aging until it's time to pick up smoking again.

I agree with everyone else here. My wife is 6 months pregnant, but I simply smoke either when she isn't home, or when I go out with the guys. If she is going to be around, I be sure to take a shower and change clothes before getting close out of respect for her.

There are many alternatives instead of just getting rid of your stash. Like Jeff said above, as a worst case scenario, you could just put them away for awhile, let them age, and hopefully after the birth (if she's pregnant), you will have some fine smokes to celebrate! Of course, then you'd be in the same boat with the wife not wanting you to smoke because "there's a baby in the house." Therefore, I would do what I said in the first paragraph I wrote above. :)

Perhaps you could work something out with your wife about getting rid of a lot of your inventory but keeping a small stash for an occasional cigar...

It's been suggested a few times but if I were you I would either just stick your stash in a closet somewhere and check on it from time to time and see if things change in the future. Worst case scenario, in a year you have some premium sticks with some age to sell. Or you could sell off some of your stash but hold on to a single humidor full of your best sticks just in case things change.

Congrats on the pregnancy.

I agree with the consensus, don't rush into a hasty decision, unless it's a financial reason then just let those tasty treats rest for a while and visit them later. Not knowing your situation i wish you the best!

I quit smoking cigarettes when my wife got pregnant and picked up cigars around the time my son was born. My 2c would be unless you are strapped for the cash you should just put them down for rest rather than selling them. You may find it possible to squeeze in a cigar or two once the kid is born and you will be glad you have some good stuff with a little age on it to enjoy. Of course if you have any more of those Outlaw LFD's you should get rid of those ASAP because otherwise they might turn into pumpkins or something.

Just what I was about to say.

After "listening" to the advice I have received from people I respect -- both in this thread and via PM -- I have decided to talk this over with the wife before making a final decision. She is in a much better mood today, so I think it will be a fair discussion! Thanks to everyone for the advice and I will let you all know the outcome of the "negotations".

Good Luck with the wife, and I hope you two can agree to a situation that is acceptable to the both of you.

Jon,

Go on a smoking binge, smoking all your best non stop for the next couple of weeks! :sign:

More than anything bro, just know that you're not alone in that boat. A lot of us walk delicate lines with our wives. I agree with Jeff, put them away in your basement for a year; but whatever you do, we all wish you nothing but the best.

All of the brothers here have fantastic advice. Good luck with your wife, but we all know that she needs to let you be you. If you want to put down the habit because you want to, then thats different. It sounds like you guys'll have this resolved in no time. Plus, can you imagine a cooler full of aged smokes......please excuse me while i mop up my drool off the floor!

I talked it over with the wife and it looks like we have come to an agreement. I won't be giving up cigars after all. Thanks to everyone who gave advice. As for everyone who PM'd me showing interest in my stock -- I am very sorry for leading you on a wild goose chase! I should have let the situation die down a bit and talk it over with her before making people believe there were cigars to be had!!

Glad it worked out!

Glad to hear things have smoothed out.

My wife and I both smoke, but never in the house; always outside on one of our covered decks. A little rough in the winter but not so bad, all things considered. You'd never know there was a smoker in the house, let alone two. You may want to consider such an arrangement on a temporary or even permanent basis. I actually look forward to being outside in the evening.....kinda nice. Really nice in the early AM with a cup of coffee and a smoke; it's how I start most every Sunday.

Best Regards - B.B.S.

Glad to hear it worked out!

And BBS...I couldn't agree more about being up nice and early, outside w/ a cup of coffee and a good smoke.
