Ladies and Gents, with the influx of newer members over the past few months I've decided that I'll be running another Newbie Pass once the weather is a little more cooperative.I have a tentative start date of Tuesday September the 16th. It will be a learning experience for all just as the last newbie pass I ran was. The few extra months before the actual start will give you time to read through some old pass threads so you can get the general idea of what it takes to be involved in a successful pass. We will be learning about value, equal trading, pass etiquette, and other vital aspects of participating in a pass.

I will start posting different rules and links that will be helpful to all within the next week or two. The cigar list has been set and most everyone has agreed they like the lineup. I think it's a pretty damn stout list of cigars for a newbie pass. Like I said in an earlier post, if you can't make the trades for the cigars listed, let me know so I can change you out. One thing I will insist on is each person making between 3-7 trades out of the pass. It does no good to make one or two trades because it usually costs anywhere from $10-$20 to ship. I will be sending the pass to the person the furthest away from me so that I incur the highest postage charge and hopefully you guys won't have far to send it.

I really enjoyed running the last Newbie pass and got to know some good fellows which is why I've decided to do this again. This is as much about camaraderie as it is about trading for cigars. If any of you have questions about how I run a pass, just check out the "Getting your feet wet pass" that just ended last month and feel free to pm the guys involved or ask me any questions you feel the need to ask. I am the sole judge of the participants, so please don't get your feelings hurt if I don't choose you. Remember that since we're a few months away, I'll be watching how potential participants act, trade, and generally handle themselves here on CP.

RULES

1=RARITY

A common pass rule is an "equal put for an equal take", this includes rarities for rarities also. Since there are quite a few cigars in the pass that rarity could be argued upon, I'll be going on a case by case basis.We will learn about the basics of rarity but I'm not going to be quite the stickler about it in this pass. If you want an Opus X Power Ranger and want to put in a Padron 1926 Serie #6 I'll let it slide. Rarity can be a confusing and complicated thing so as long as I feel you've made up for the difference in value, I'll probably let the trade go. These type trades are purely speculative and totally up to me if I let them go or not.

2=PASS ETIQUETTE
This is one of the most important parts of a pass...pass etiquette. Every host wants their pass to run smoothly and all that are involved to have fun, so some common courtesy will be needed to be used by all. I don't expect any "drama" involved in my pass. There may be a disagreement or two, but they will be handled civilly. This is a Newbie pass, so there will be plenty of "eyes" upon us, so we want to show by example how well we handle adversity or anything else that might pop up. Remember, these are the potential pass hosts watching whose passes you might want to join at a later time. Be courteous to your fellow passer. If it's time for that person to receive the pass, pm and post to make sure that they are ready to receive it. Treat each cigar as if it's your own. If you're not trading for a cigar, then don't take it out of it's individual baggie. When someone posts their Puts and Takes and one or more may be questionable, it's not your place to hammer them and make them look badly in front of the rest of the passers. Treat each person in public the way that you would wish to be treated. Another important aspect of pass etiquette is turnaround time. Acceptable turnaround time for a pass is 1 to 3 days from the day you receive it, any longer is too long!

3= COMMUNICATION and AVAILABILITY
Communication will be the key to this pass. There will be plenty of pm'ing, posting, etc... to keep up with what's going on in the pass. I expect you to POST your puts/takes without pm'ing them to me. I'm not out to make anyone look bad over a bad trade, but we can all learn from one. You'll need to keep in touch with the person in front of you to make sure of their availability. Each one of you posted that you'd like to be in this pass, so I'd appreciate it if you followed along with it. I don't want you to be the third in line and then just stop keeping up with the progress, because you won't learn a friggin thing! This is a commitment, just as I am committing my time and resourses to you, I expect you to commit to the pass. Feel free to pm me at anytime for any reason and I'll do my best to help you in any way I can.

Pass Thread
Be sure you check frequently to make sure when you are due up. Make sure you're ready for the pass and let me know if you need to be shifted. To make things go a little smoother, it is recommended that you check the list and post your P/T prior to receiving the pass. This will give you a head start towards getting that box back out the door. ALL P/T WILL BE POSTED ON THE THREAD. NO PMs.

Pass Arrival
Upon opening the pass, inventory all contents and inspect all sticks. The last thing you want is to be blamed for a damaged stick because you didn't inspect thoroughly. Do not take the cigars out of their baggies! Make sure each cigar that is listed on the sheet, is in the pass box. Always double check against what I have here on this main page also. Packaging is of utmost importance. You want to make sure that once you put the cigars into the tupperdore, there is no movement. Also, after you've put the tupperdore back in the box and secured the foam around it, give it a slight shake to make sure there is no movement from inside the main pass box. There will be a folder inside with the cigar list and everyone's info.

Shipping

CP Shipping Hints(link)

Now you're ready to ship. Post on the board ensuring the next on the list is ready. Inside the same folder as before you will find a sheet of paper with everyones address. Shoot a PM his way and verify the address you have.
Next, ensure that all cigars are in their own individual baggies and in its proper gallon bag. Make sure the tupperdore is humidified properly and close the box up. After closing, make sure there is no movement inside the box.

CigarCyclopedia Comparison Shopper
Rarity for Rarity and MSRP for MSRP. Since there are no ISOMs in this we don't have to worry about that. The site above is what we will be using as much as possible in determining MSRP.

:thumbs: Nice one, Brian.

I recommend getting in on this one if you can, new guys. Jonesy's top notch.

Another pass...holy crap #2, why don't you become a missionary to Africa, much less work :sign: :laugh:

Very nice play #2.

I would like to be preliminarily considered for this. Thanks for setting these up to give new guys a chance to learn the ropes.

I must disclose that I was involved in the hot potato bomb. Not sure if that technically qualifies for a pass.

I would enjoy "getting my feet wet" here on CP. I've done some of these before with other groups and they are alot of fun. Shopping the box is great but I think the puts are my most fun with sticking in stuff people may not have available to them in other areas of the country. Looking forward and hoping I'm considered.

By late September I'll have passed the 3 month membership criteria, so I'd love to participate in this Pass as well. :thumbs:

I would very much like to be a participant in this pass.

Currently envolved in the Cigar Pass it Foward Part II, not sure if that DQ's me or not
