Getting a Jeep

Switching from an 02 Mercedes C320 to likely a 2000 Jeep TJ and I can't freakin wait. I actually found one I was about to buy but it turned out there was a deposit on it before I looked at it, so it slipped through my fingers. I have to play the waiting game now to find one that I like and get rid of my car. Oh well.

I've decided to make this switch due to our lifestyle change of moving to VA where I'm doing something outdoorsy every weekend (benz doesn't quite cut it with that). I had bought the benz when I was doing more than 3 hours worth of driving a day in Northern Delaware, but now that we moved and my commute is a whopping 8 minutes, I'm finally going to get the car I've always wanted but never made sense to have.

I've got plans for a convertible trailer in the mix right now so it will essentially be a pickup truck when I need it to be, and a toy the rest of the time.

Any other Jeep owners here?

My Jeep Comanche is my favorite of all the vehicles I have owned ... well my 71 GTO and Harley Sportster are really in a different class.

EDIT Spelling

On my third Jeep Grand Cherokee. Nice vehicle without too hefty a price tag. Second car is an Acura RSX...........got the best of both worlds.

I drive my 92' Jeep Wrangler everyday that I bought brand new in Germany. I have roughly 140,000 miles on it and sportin' a 4" lift kit with 31 x 10.5 tires. My wife Beth drives our 2004 Explorer Sport Trac which is in excellent shape. That vehicle just went over 24K yesterday and it rides like we just bought it new in Florida....... :)

I helpped launch the 2005 WK (GRAND CHEROKEE) and the 2006 XK (COMMANDOR). Nice Vehicles plus they are built here in Detroit, MI. Just got rid of our Grand Cherokee for a Grand Caravan :( , wifes choice with number 2 on the way she wanted the van (I'm not getting rid of the WRX). The TJ/WJ Wrangler is built in Toledo Ohio great fun, if you have the option look for a used RUBICON (Dana locker Axels, 4:10 gears and 32" tires) you will need to add nothing to this beast to have a blast.

Best of luck on your new ride. Hope you get what you want out of the Benz!

I like my Xterras! But if I was gonna choose a Jeep, I'd go for a TJ (preferably a Rubi)

We bought an '05 Liberty a little over a year ago. Thing works great so far and I'm fairly impressed with its offroad capabilities. Beats the tar out of my old Explorer sport.

I've been driving a '99 Wrangler Sahara for about 5 years and it's been great!!

This is the next vehicle on my list. I don't know how I ended up with an SUV (oh yeah, kids) but the Wrangler Sahara is more my style. Any problems with it?

Jeeps are great fun. Although I test drove an 06 Wrangler anniversary (40th?).. and the gearing wasn't what I'd call comfortable for every day city driving. I know, I know.. Jeep isn't marketing them as a city vehicle.. but how many folks take their Jeep off roading every day?

Only problem I've had was the throttle position sensor going out. It was a quick fix then it was back to normal.

I've taken it on several long road trips. Twice to Chicago and back (11 hours and 715 miles one way) with no problems. Camping and fishing in Northern Arkansas with no problems. It's been an all around great vehicle that gets me where I need to go, and it's fun to drive!

Didn't have a jeep but had a Mighty Mite for a few years, I restored it from the ground up. Loved it. My buddy just got one of the four door jeeps and it is super nice. I was amazed it was much more than I expected.

Just retired my '95 Cherokee w/ 300,000 miles on it. I was determined to make it to half-million but had an offer on a 95 Avalon with only 50k miles. :D

'99 Cherokee Sport here w/ just over 100k miles.

The only issue with the Jeep's in general is the unique music each one plays. Between the rattles, squeaks, hums, vibrations and other wonderful noises, each one has a symphony to play even when the radio is off.

AMATEURS!

1972 CJ5
4" lift
33" Mud Terrains (my STREET tires)
31x15x15 Goodyear Terra Tires (my offroad tires)
1970 Corvette LT-1 350 (tweaked of course)
1970 T-10 tranny (mated to Jeep T-18 transfer case with adapter)
custom Currie Enterprise Ford 9" front/rear axles w/disk breaks, limited slip front, locker rear
full roll cage, bucket seats, 5 point harnesses, and many other goodies added I forgot.

Sadly, I no longer have this Jeep... got married and it was not the best vehicle for us. If I could have afforded a second, daily driver I would still have it. But, as it stands, I'm always keeping my eye out for an old flat fender Willys jeep (Cj2 or 3) to restore. Of all the cars I've had, I miss the Jeep the most. I used to drag race it (I could pop the front end 3 feet off the ground!) and mud bog with it... guys in their huge pickups would get mad at me when I'd do laps around their truck when it was stuck

I'll see if I can dig up the pics... somewhere I have a shot of me dug into the mud so bad it took 3 3/4ton pickups chained to me at the SAME time to pull me out!

update:

checked out an 04 loaded rubicon today. It's 5k more than I wanted to spend. Fiance is telling me to get it. Wallet is telling me not to....

I'm probably going to get it.

*insert bad word here*

Have a mut of a jeep. 87 YJ with a CJ fron t clip. Looks like an old CJ, but has all the upgrades (wider stance better rust protection) of the newer model. Also had a roll bar from a 95 put in to appease the guilt of child seats in the back! Love it, but currently saving money to replace the sincro's as I can't get it into 4th and if I do, it isn't pleasant getting it out!
