George Carlin dead at 71

RIP.

Not many comics out there that make you think. His commentary on everyday life will be missed.

I remember listening to my friend's older brother's George Carlin LPs like "Occupation Foole" and "Class Clowne" back around 1980 and laughing ourselves hoarse. From the crudest of comments to his hilarious observations on the most commonplace aspects of life, Carlin always made me laugh and will always be one of my favorite comics.

"WE WANT THE BLUE FOOD!"

RIP George.

My absolute favorite comedian.

RIP George.

He was one of the funniest comedians I've ever had the pleasure of watching, mainly because he was SMART. He made you laugh, but at the same time, he made you THINK. A rare talent and one who will be truly missed.

Hope you finally found a place for all your "stuff" George. :)

x2

Funny, but sneaky smart. Always gave you something to chew on when the act was over.

RIP, Funnyman.

“The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating...

...and you finish off as an orgasm.”

Before the advent of Cable TV....we listened to our high school and college comedy by record album...just like we bought Beetles, Stones, and Zeppelin albums. It was always a cool thing when Carlin came out with a new one and he always seemed younger than his years...in fact, you never even stopped to think about how old he was because his routine was always so current and 'plugged in'....not the same old recycled BS that other comics relied on.

He was one of the 3 ground breakers from that special time in our history when Richard Pryor, Carlin, and Lenny Bruce changed comedy to a more intelligent vehicle to send a message along with a laugh. They were the first that when they did a routine and came out with a line, you would think... "should I laugh, cringe, or be pissed?" They made 'thinking' mandatory when you listened to them. You knew that something was historically changing in front of your eyes when you would read about these guys in the newspaper or see them on the evening news and it had nothing to do with comedy....but had to do with how they were trying to change America's conservative views in an ever changing society by doing it their way.

Whether you liked him or not...or agreed with him or not, he would always make you think about things in a different way through his "comedy"...or was he just a purveyor of the obvious that most people just didn't think of on their own?

Too young to die.

Thanks for the laughs George, our culture will not evolve the same without you.

Somehow I can only think of 7 little words.... Heaven has one funny dude comming up!! :)

One of my favorite routines of his was the one about the airlines where the Stewardess tells him that he may now get on the plane, to which he replies something like "YOU can get ON the plane, I'M getting IN the plane!" Everyday observations from a not so everyday man. ;)

I remember watching his first HBO special and from that time on I was a fan. I was fortunate to see him a few years ago here in Vegas breaking out new material for another HBO special. RIP George, you brought many a tear to my eye from laughter and I thank you.

R.I.P. Mr. Carlin.

He was hilarious on stage, and a gentleman in person. I had the privilege to meet him, quite by accident, and was very impressed. In the early to mid 70’s, during the CB radio boom, I worked in a CB radio shop in the West L.A. area. He came in with a friend to look at radios and asked some questions. He was there for about 20 minutes and before he left, he made it a point to go up to, and thank each employee that had answered one of his questions. Unheard of today.

Hands down my favorite comedia. I saw him live at the stardust a few years back. He was the first preformance I ever saw when I moved to vegas. Both him and the stardust are gone. Sad times indeed, it ruined my day when I heard the news.

We were talking about him this morning. One of the things that made him great was his delivery, it was some of the best in the biz. He was a comedic genius.

He did a follow-up bit on the seven words that I cannot find. It was the seven uniques (censor) beeps went with the words. I'm sure it's on the net somewhere but I can't find it.

He'll be missed for sure.

:(

He was the funniest man i have ever seen and had the chance to meet a bunch of years ago, he was the greatest and i know that i already miss him. R.I.P

Usually a celebrity passing makes me go "Huh, too bad", but this one makes me truly sad. The world is now short one helluva lot of talent.

I'm glad I had the chance to see him live. Easily my favorite comedian ever. Hands down.

A great loss indeed.
