Yes and no on the less skill issue.
I started with topographical maps and compass's 30 years ago, waking the same hills looking for dots on a map (cave entrances).
You were at the mercy of how accurate they were making the original plot.
With a GPS waypoint you get a more accurate dot on the map, but you still spend a lot of time wandering around saying, "It should be right here!?!" :laugh: :laugh:
 
We love geocaching. Best one was in a trees roots on the face of a cliff over Lake Michigan. Its fun to read the log books and trade stuff.
