A while back i posted that a group of cigar enthusiasts were invited to visit the General Cigar facilities, myself included, we were wined and dined. After the entire five days we visited so many parts of the Dominiccan Republic that General has that some of the many parts have been lost in my mind. Good thing we have a dvd of the entire trip. After the trip we were asked to review some future blends that General had in there system, to see which were mild bodied or medium or full.
When the entire process was done we were told that the blend chosen by the group was to be introduced at the cigar trade show and we would be told in due time what blend was chosen and under what name. Today i received a thank you note from Daniel Nunez for the groups effort in helping to find the blend for the Macanudo 1968. Plus a box of Mac 68's robustos to boot. I feel a certain feeling of pride, if only for the reviews i've read online. Thought i'd share. :D

Sounds like a great time and a free box as well.

Sounds like that was a cool trip for sure. I'd love to see some pics of that journey.

Now that you have received the box of Mac68s...smoke one and see if you can remember if they taste similar to the ones you smoked down there....I know that's a tall order, but give it a shot.

Thanks

My bad. The cigars that i reviewed were mailed to my house later, months after we had returned from the DR, the cigars that we smoked there were from a basket that was continually filled the entire time we were there. It was a cigar orgy, we smoked morning noon and night. Not including Dominican food and drink. Nothing but the best from the DR. Needless to say, i fell in love the country. :D

Now that is a great story. You can't help but feel proud, and fortunate, to be a part of that.
Good for you!

Very cool story, Claudio. Do let us know how you like the now-released 1968s. :)

Great choice. I smoked my first the other day and found it to be an enjoyable stick.

Sounds like an awesome time! After reading about this cigar I ordered their 3 pack for 9.95. I smoked the Robusto size a couple days ago. I thought it was a very enjoyable cigar, something differnt from them.

Smoked the toro size today, have to admit this cigar is one of the two similiar tasting cigars that General sent to be reviewed. Started out with a bit of spice which turned into a sweet tasting tobacco that was on the strong side of medium. About half way through the sweetnees increased in intensity with a bit of fruit which i'll never figure out, citrusy maybe, the burn was razor sharp and the ash was the whitest i've seen in a while. I really enjoyed this cigar, almost nubbed it, but my big fingers were feeling the heat. I would recommend this cigar to anyone i know. :)

Claudio,

I'm glad to hear that your specimen performed!

Now if only they weren't about $10 a stick on average. :(
