I have a little time on my hands and thought it would be best if I got a few reviews out of my system before the impending doom of papers come up at University. I have a few AF Hemingway madruos resting in my coolidor and thought that this would be a fine time to burn my first one. I just finished my first bottle of scotch and went out and bought a bottle of Clynelish 14 yo for forty dollars to go along with this Hemingway signature maduro.

Pre-light impression
A well made cigar that smelled a little on the young side to me. A few small tears on the wrapper, but nothing that impacted the smoking experience. The cap popped off nicely.

The smoke
Xikar just replaced my lighter and this new one works like a dream. The light, like the majority of Hemingways I’ve had went off without a hitch thanks to the nipple tip. Loads of smoke began to hit me once the burn hit the main part of the cigar. The Clynelish was very powerful and it complemented the cigar nicely. The smoke was not raw and powerful, but very balanced and tasty. I’d say this is a nice medium-bodied smoke that is full of very woody flavors during its initial burn. As the cigar burned down, the smoke changed and had a more chocolate tone to it with a very light sense of vanilla left upon the tongue.

yes, I'm drinking my scotch out of an old canning jar :p

Overall
A fine smoke, but worth the hype? For some maybe. A rare cigar that is not often produced and is gouged by retailers. It’s an enjoyable smoke that doesn’t let you down and I will smoke more.

I've only had one Signature Maduro, my only Hemingway Maduro to date, and I am quite a fan! I wish I had more than one left! I'm planning on letting it acquire some age before smoking it--we'll see how that goes.

Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review.
I found some production hemi maduro's are rolled too tight but when they aren't let the sweetness shine!
My favorite is the WOAM.

:D Nice review.
I have had 3 of these and the Maduro does not do it for me in these. The Hemingway signature and Classic are 2 of my Fav's just not in Maduro so far.
I will add that I believe the ones I had where very young and would probably be much better with age. I am currently aging one to try in a month or 2.

I'll have to try one of these at some point. I tried the signature natural last night and it really did nothing for me. Sounds like the maduro packs a little more punch

Looks excellent. Great review!

I'd really like to get my hands on a couple of these. Thanks for the review.

Very nice review.

I don't smoke many Dominicans these days, but a Hemi Maduro is always a treat. Especially like the WOAM.

Ihave smoked 3 of them, and 2 were plugged...aftger poking it with a poker in my B&M it got better. I thought ithe one that wasnt plugged was a really great smoke.

You're getting good at these reviews Marc!

I have been pondering the same thing----are they worth the hype?

They're worth the price. . .the markup/rarity pisses me off . I think there are Hemingway maduros left over in alot of places because most people jump at the Opus X and Anejo release first.

Look around, I think these can be found very close to MSRP.

I just got one of these of Cbid for a dollar or two over MSRP. It's tough to pass it by when I open the humi. I don't know how long I can hold out.

Thanks for the interesting review. It never occurred to me to pair scotch with such a delicately nuanced cigar; but, I guess that depends on the scotch to some extent. These are my favorite Hemmie Maduro.

They need to be stored on the dry side to get the proper flavor, draw, and burn. How do I know? I was impatient after my Tampa Sweetheart holiday shipment this year and wasted one not waiting for it to dry out enough. It was still good but the next one was SO much better after an additional week of drying.

A member here came up with an interesting strategy for getting these. Put yourself on every waiting list and you'll get more than you want, in due course.

I was expecting to see a pic of the empty bottle at the end of the review...

Nice review.

Definitely a favorite cigar of mine and preferred over the natural hemingways. Gouging sucks but thankfully i can find them at a B&M for a little under MSRP. Highly recommended that everyone try at least one.

I think you guys are nuts! Best part about the holidays are the release of hemingway maduros! I like the fact that people jump for the opus and anjeos and leave these on the shelves.

They get better with age, and if you lucky, try getting your hands on a sungrown. I had a SG Classic on Christmas coming home from my parents house and it was AWESOME.
