I have a little time on my hands and thought it would be best if I got a few reviews out of my system before the impending doom of papers come up at University. I have a few AF Hemingway madruos resting in my coolidor and thought that this would be a fine time to burn my first one. I just finished my first bottle of scotch and went out and bought a bottle of Clynelish 14 yo for forty dollars to go along with this Hemingway signature maduro.
Pre-light impression
A well made cigar that smelled a little on the young side to me. A few small tears on the wrapper, but nothing that impacted the smoking experience. The cap popped off nicely.
The smoke
Xikar just replaced my lighter and this new one works like a dream. The light, like the majority of Hemingways I’ve had went off without a hitch thanks to the nipple tip. Loads of smoke began to hit me once the burn hit the main part of the cigar. The Clynelish was very powerful and it complemented the cigar nicely. The smoke was not raw and powerful, but very balanced and tasty. I’d say this is a nice medium-bodied smoke that is full of very woody flavors during its initial burn. As the cigar burned down, the smoke changed and had a more chocolate tone to it with a very light sense of vanilla left upon the tongue.
yes, I'm drinking my scotch out of an old canning jar
Overall
A fine smoke, but worth the hype? For some maybe. A rare cigar that is not often produced and is gouged by retailers. It’s an enjoyable smoke that doesn’t let you down and I will smoke more.
