I was at a local liquor store down here in Castle Rock today and in their humidor I spotted the Fuente Fuente Opus X, not just 1 box - they had 2 full boxes in stock. I think I understood why. Is 41.95 to much to ask for them per stick or what? If that is in fact a decent price I will have to wait to buy some.

That is too much.

Even in California that is too much, I refuse to pay that anyway. I understand retailers are aware of the rarity and try to take advantage of us. I would never pay anything above $30.00 per stick unless it was a "real" rarity. In which case it comes down to how bad you want it and what is it worth to you. That is just IMHO. :)

Opus meX,

CP Newbie ;)

My B&M has them for 25 per stick for the Perfection X and Super Beli. Of course I bought some. Nothing like paying a bit over 2x MSRP.

Edit - wanted to add

CgarDan, if you are reading this, I know you like Opus X, it's at the Cigar Pyramid on 80th and 5th Ave. Just a few blocks from you.

Wow. A gouger at his finest. I once went into my local in Charlottesville and he had a box of #5s set aside for me (probably because I called everyday for a week looking for Anejo and Hemi Maduros). Wanted $600 for the box. I literally laughed at him.

$42 for a small Opus X?!? If that place is an authorized Fuente dealer, they truly deserve to be turned in and have their account canceled. (posting their name might help those with the power check into it ;) )

Ok, that's ridiculous. In CO, I could see these going for $20 a stick and not being too disappointed with the price (w/your in the ass 40% tax and all). $25 even wouldn't get me too hissy.

But over $40? My god. Is he buying them at retail and then re-marking them up to make a profit?

NULLSMURF knows about this place I think as we both live here and close by. The place is Bubbles Liquor in Castle Rock. Unfortunately I would love to try these tasty treats but not at this price. I will wait till I find them at a much better price. If anyone has 1 to try - I will (if its worth it) trade them 1-for-1 my H.Upmanns Corona Majors that I got from a friend in the war area. If not I will wait and purchase a couple. Local trades only please.

If it makes a difference to anyone willing to trade, I am going to be in Vegas on Wednesday the 20th December and getting married on the 22nd (Friday) (cheap shot at getting sticks as gifts hahahaha) I will trade though. If there is anyone in Vegas those dates, please email me. CrnrPokt@comcast.net TIA

Get your arse up to Barlow's tomorrow night and I'm sure we can work something out.

Even with the tax, there are deals to be had. Choice Fuentes and Opus don't stay on the shelf long.

Drive on down to Stags in Colorado Springs sometime. I've never seen them without several sizes of Opus X. I was in this afternoon and they had several sizes in stock, $12.50 to $20 or so.

Can you blame him for trying to ask that amount of money from you considering that you called him everyday? ??? I'll bet you don't make out too well at garage sales either.

That is ridiculously overpriced. Please see here: Fuente Fuente Opus X info & MSRP

That's his normal price. Usually 2 or more times MSRP. Had nothing to do with me calling him looking for Anejo. Thanks for the input though. And I don't shop at garage sales - I don't need other peoples junk.

BTW, you really can't resist can you? I don't post here that often anymore and when I do, the first thing you do is take a shot at me. Some things never change....

I've been to that store, and I actually called over a manager to ask him WTF he was thinking asking that much for his Opus X. I was feeling a little like a smartass that day, and I think I said something along the lines of, "Are CO tobacco taxes really that bad, or are you just jacking up your prices trying to gouge the folks that don't know that msrp on that cigar is about $9."

I used to live over in The Meadows while that was being built, and I just shook my head in shame when they chose the dumbest name ever for a liquor store, "Bubbles".

So why are you complaining about your local B&M then? If you knew what he charged for Opus, why call and ask for Anejo if you know they're also going to be marked up unfairly?

The guy who held the box for you at your B&M was doing you a favor really - he thought of you as a customer, knowing you like Fuente stuff, went out of his way to hold a box of special cigars for you. He could easily sell those cigars by the stick - but, out of consideration for you, he held on to it and probably lost a few sales because of it.

Sure, the B&M is gouging. However, you weren't exactly being the most consistent character with your actions either.

We have a vendor here that gets OpusX's in four times a year or so. It's always the same drill; retail + state tobacco tax, limited to two of each vitola per customer per day. Hard to imagine anything more equitable.....
