Fuente Chateau Pyramid at Jack Schwartz Importer

Eric, I'm trying to resist those lanceros. Just bought some La Aroma EEs and the new LFD Double Press at my local B&M, so want to do the responsible thing. But it's unbelievably tempting - especially since I've become a huge lancero and LFD fan.

I realized some folks might have no clue as to what cigars I am talking about. Here is the info:

The Fuentes are introducing two new OpusX sizes with their Lost City OpusX release. The cigar pictured on the left is the New Perfecto. It measures 7 x 44. It has the black band on it so it is an actual Lost City OpusX (meaning it has the 2004 tobaccos from the filming of the Lost City movie). The cigar on the right is the new OpusX Love Affair. This one measures 4 9/16 x 50. Now the Love Affair is not a Lost City blend, it is simply a regular OpusX blend.

I think I've smoked a whole box of La Flor Oscuro Lanceros over the past two weeks. I love those cigars.

The responsible thing would be to pull the trigger on such a fantastic deal

. If you need to wait a while in between purchases just let me know and I'll set one of these samplers aside for you.

Thanks,
Eric

ok, so is the lost City Opus really that good? Or is it just really that rare?

Well, the lost city BLEND opus(the ones with black bands saying Lost City) are made from leaves grown in the off season for the benefit of a guy filming a movie, so they're from a special crop that won't be reproduced. The Opus Love Affair is a new size using the standard blend, so nothing terribly special, that is being put in with the rest of the Lost City release. Basically red Lost City band is regular opus blend, black is Lost City specially grown tobacco(but probably still the same blend). Hope that helps.

So its a rarity thing more then a blend / taste thing. At least that is what I am getting from what you said. And yes, that helps.

Thanks!

Pretty much. There's always a chance the off season crop will yield some difference in flavor, you never know.

Thanks for the info! I think I will pass on these then. My collection hasnt yet made it to the point of buying cigars for the rarity value! :p

I am sure others will enjoy though!

That's a great question. I don't know what the Funete's were thinking when they created the packaging for these cigars. The fancy box and red ribbons on the foot were probably chosen to hide the fact that these new cigars are simply a standard Fuente blend with a Connecticut shade wrapper.

It will be interesting to see how these cigars turn out. Wayne Suarez will be in the shop next Wednesday. I'm going to ask him what he thinks about the new Lost City blend. We'll see what he has to say.

I mean I want to order 1 or 2. But if it is just a rarity thing, not really a taste thing, I dont think I am ready to start paying that kinda money for them.

Who knows, maybe next time if there is a next time.

I'd say wait and see what Wayne has to say, and maybe wait till some folks do some reviews. There should be plenty of Lost City OpusX Robustos, Toros, Double Robustos, and Pyramids available. Personally, the new Love Affair size doesn't really do much for me (this is a regular OpusX blend anyway). The New Perfecto size is the one I'm looking forward to.

Something that Moki brought up (not sure where - whether in a thread or chat) is that this Lost City blend will be unlike any other. The regular Opus blend consists of tobacco from different years, whereas this particular cigar has tobacco all from one crop. He compared it to wines, with this blend like a vintage of one particular year, rather than a blend of many years.

Will it be better? Worse? Taste the "same but different"? Who knows. But there should be different characteritics to it.

Eric, Did you get any feedback on these? Thanks!

He really didn't have a lot of info on these. Sounds like the cigars are resting now, just waiting for the boxes to get to the factory so they can pack them up. It sounds like there should be some subtle differences, but ultimatly they're OpusX cigars. I wish I had more info or some kind of sample to try. I guess we have to wait and see.

I did speak to Prometheus the other day, it looks like shipments won't go out till early-to-mid November. I'll make sure to post something when I know they are shipping the cigars.

Eric
