I have a potential interview to come work in California Pennsylvania. While I am working through my options, I have alot of pros and cons.

Any views good or bad of the area? I have never even been to the state (flown through airport) let alone that town, so I know nothing about that part of the country. I can see it is much smaller then I have ever lived in before, but just thought I would ask the experts as I know many of you are from the area.

Any thoughts would be appreciated
.
thanks!

PA is a very large state. Maybe you could help us out by stating where the job offer is going to come from. California, PA?

You mean SW Gary, SE is Chester County where I'm from.

I can't help you that part of PA is as far away as Germany is from Great Britain compared to where I grew up.

its 35 miles South of Pittsburgh,PA

Cookie might be able to help out then.

Grew up outside of Scranton, which, of course, is the opposite side of the state than you are looking at. However, I still would not move back to anywhere in PA unless that paycheck was damn worth it. There better be French benefits, too!

Seriously, though... couldn't pay me to go back there. Ok, you could, but it would take a lot. I'd move back to Arkansas before I moved up to PA again, especially the NE where I'm from, originally.

Not much in that actual town so they have to be paying you some awesome salary and perks!

Hill Country. Fairly close to civilization (Pittsburgh). In addition to Cookie, there's a couple other CP BOTL in the area.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh - It has worked out well for me and the family. Low cost of living (housing) - good family values - You could do a lot worse IMHO. Oh yea, the weather normally sucks in the winter - not this year - got to love global warming. :D

F@#k Pittsburgh!!!!

The Ohio border isn't super far away should seek more intelligent conversation.

I do find a snack of Camembert cheese with Champagne while surrounded by topless sunbathers to be beneficial, but I would think fringe benefits are more practical in Pennsylvania. ;)

lol! French benefits.

Oh! Send a PM to Keystone_Raider Ben. I think he's just south of Pittsburgh in Greensburg PA.

Hey Guys,

thanks for the info. Alittle more detail it would be a promotion with some more funds! But it is so much smaller area then I am used to. Just wanted to make sure it was in civilization and not too far removed from life. I will be moving out alone, so I would need some brothers to smoke with! Interview next week, so we will see. Do not want to jinx myself.

But super strange, California, Pennsylvania, in Washington County....come on!

I loved growing up in PA so I have no idea what Kann's problem is, maybe the Scranton Area sucks, but where I grew up is a nice area.

Yeah, that's where the humor was intended. For all intensive purposes, I'd have expected this level of literal (in)comprehension from YellowSmoker, but, really...? Sheesh. ;)

(see what I did there? SEE IT? :p )

Topless sunbathers do sound good right now, though. It's fookin' freezing. And, yes, the Scranton-area sucks.

If you like craft beer or unusual liquor PA is NOT the place to be. The PLCB (PA Liquor Control Board) is the most backward in the entire country and the liquor laws are inane at best.

I have been all around the country, moved 13 times and lived in 7 states. I am very happy with Pa and plan on staying here. Basically a low cost of living, the lowest taxes I have paid in my travels and there is no tobacco tax on cigars. Pa is the #2 retirement state in the country behind of course Florida.

I'd say go visit before making any decision. It might smell weird or something. The last place I lived before MN had a weird smell. Never did get used to it after 3 years.

Yeah, get to the beer distributors before 5 pm, and hit up the State Store for your liquor before the weekend gets here.
