I hope this isn't viewed as political as it's really just common sense.

"Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not."
Thomas Jefferson

FIREARMS REFRESHER COURSE
1. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
2. A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.
3. Colt: The original point and click interface.
4. Gun control is not about guns; it's about control.
5. If guns are outlawed, can we use swords?
6. If guns cause crime, then pencils cause misspelled words.
7. Free men do not ask permission to bear arms.
8. If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.
9. Those who trade liberty for security have neither.
10. The United States Constitution ©1791. All Rights Reserved.
11. What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand?
12. The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the others.
13. 64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.
14. Guns only have two enemies; rust and politicians.
15. Know guns, know peace, know safety. No guns, no peace, no safety.
16. You don't shoot to kill; you shoot to stay alive.
17. 911: Government sponsored Dial-a-Prayer.
18. Assault is a behavior, not a device.
19. Criminals love gun control; it makes their jobs safer.
20. If guns cause crime, then matches cause arson.
21. Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.
22. You have only the rights you are willing to fight for.
23. Enforce the gun control laws we ALREADY have; don't make more.
24. When you remove the people's right to bear arms, you create slaves.
25. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control.

Thank you for that!!! In a time of more and more pressure to get rid of legally owned guns, it is good to see some people still have it right!!!

Don

I believe some gun control is needed. I don't think they should be outlawed.

I am kind of caught in a conundrum on this one. I have never been for any sort of gun control but after / during my AZ CCW course I came to the conclusion that there are many many people out there who have no business owning a firearm.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, how do you explain Japan, England and the EU gun deaths or lack thereof. ???

Maybe they educate their people and actually punish those who abuse rights and privileges. Just a guess

Since the US has more people in jail per capita then any other first world nation your guess about punishment doesn't seem to be correct.

I guess the theory is kind of like health care, it has been a disaster in other countries so lets try it here.

Les(D) - not

True, we have more people per capita in jail than any other leading country which would "seem" to indicate that we punish our criminals, but what criminals do we punish?. We also turn a blind eye to virtually all crime and those who commit it unless there is money to be made by exploiting it. We therefore have more criminals on the street per capita than any other leading country. But.......................this discussion is going way beyond my ability to state factual stats so I will let it drop.

Gun control around here weighs 600 lbs, is lag bolted to the floor joists, and sits in front of a monitored motion detector.

Oh, and using both hands helps a lot, too...... :p

This is very true and is the sad result of the effort dedicated to control rather than education.

this is gun control. its controlled on my hip where it should be. unfortunatley, the law says that most of the time it has to stay inside my pants and under my shirt.

I've never shot anyone, and I've never been to jail. But god help me, because if the need ever comes upon me, I won't so much as blink.

All I can say about gun control is ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ. Come and take them, and bring an army with you.

until every turd in this country is erradicated, I will own and carry firearms.

The same way you'd explain:

The Swiss - A very large segment of the population owns firearms (27.2%), including fully automatic weapons. They have one of the lowest homicide rates in the world, lower than England. And Norway - 32% of their population own firearms, they have the forth lowest homicide rate in the world.

Answer IMO:
There are many, many factors that are much more prominent than gun availability that influence homicide rates and crime in general. England and Japan had very low homicide rates, much lower than ours, long before they confiscated all the guns.
