Finlandia Robusto

I had no idea that they sold them to other countries, there is one thing about the packaging though. It allows them to dry out more than usually

Glad your getting to try them Tim, I also hope you enjoy them as much as the one I was privledged to receive from Ekans.

Well curiosity got the best of me, LOL. I ventured onto the link posted by Moki and a few days later, five Finlandia Robustos landed at my doorstep. I still need to set up payment since, as BrewMeister mentioned, they send the cigars with an invoice. Price wasn't too bad either, total for 5 cigars with shipping is only $41.

It looks like they may have changed to a new label since the original Black/Blue labels, and the packaging is a bit more "cigar friendly" as well.

These are awesome smelling cigars. The aroma reminds me of a fresh custom rolled cuban. Very pungent habanos smell, excellent construction, and beautiful shiny wrappers. Review to follow.

Looking forward to hear what you think of them after smoking one. Hmmm 41 dollars shipped, that isn't bad at all.

Still waiting to hear how Tim liked his, he said he was going to fire it up during the superbowl.

I must say I like the older band style better, glad I saved mine :)

Nice looking sticks, Headstrong!

Thanks for posting the pictures. I can't wait to hear your review.

wilkey

Congrats HeadStrong!

I did smoke one of mine during the SUPERBOWL as promised. However, I was at a SUPERBOWL party at my local Cigar Club, and with the excitement of the game and all the folks; smokes and booze, I didn't pay as much attention to the Finlandia as I should have. All in all it was a very pleasant smoke. Not as strong as I anticipated, burned very clean and had a fantastic aroma. I have two more and will need to be more attentive to the next one.

BTW Headstrong, did they actually bill you in US dollars? Or are you converting EUROs to US Dollars to arrive at that $41.00? Just curious.

The invoice was in Euro's. I converted to USD using xe.com. Also, just got off the phone with my bank. Not sure if there will be fees associated with wire transferring money, but the included SWIFT number is all I'll need to get these guys their payment.

I did some further searching on their site and after finding a better online translator, found they have a couple other "house blends" that appear to have 100% cuban tobacco. May have to check out a few of them after trying out the Finlandia :)

Well the opportunity arose this morning to fire up the second of three of the Finlandia Robusto that I purchased back in November 2005. I enjoyed it this fine morning with a couple cups of fresh coffee.

After a six month plus, rest in the humidor it has seemed to improve. The prelight draw was excellent and the light was perfect. It starts off a bit spicy for the first ½ inch; then mellows out to a nice full flavor without any harshness. The flavors are a bit complex, with a bit of woody tones and perhaps a bit of cocoa inter-mingled.

The ash was a very light gray color and held up nicely, no ash-standing contender, but still very good. The burn was excellent with no problems, and no touch-ups required.

The finish was great, no harshness nor bitterness and I smoked it right to the nub.

I've not smoked enough ISOM cigars to make any authoritative claims as to the possibility of there being cuban tobacco included in this cigar. However, I'd consider it a possibility.

On my scale I'd have to give this cigar a solid 4 stars.

Rating:FYI my evaluation criteria is broken into 5 levels, designated by stars, I know its not the most elaborate rating system, however, it works for me :)

*****(5). Order more now, and keep on hand.
****(4). Order some, when I want a little variety in the humidor.
***(3). I'd smoke it if it was handed to me.
**(2). Keep to give to moochers
*(1). Dog Rocket - Stay away from these.

Edited for typo...

Wow,

My experience is so different. I recently smoked one of these and it was a harsh and one-dimensional stick. The draw was loose and it burned a bit hot and I noticed dry wood, grassiness and greeness to it. The tobacco flavor was light and not very rich.

If these contain Cuban tobacco, it's far from top quality. Also, they are short filler cigars which hints at the overall quality level. For about $8 a stick delivered, there are better and better tasting genuine Habanos.

I'm glad that you found it enjoyable though.

Wilkey

Luck of the Draw, as I would put the one I did the review on, in the top 10 of all the cigars I've had.

Hmm, such mixed opinions. I have one of these, and I have never smoked one before. It's been lying in the humi for a long while. Perhaps I will have to smoke it soon. I'll try to give my input when I do
