I received this cigar from Ekans in the CPIF2 and had to share with you one of the most unique smokes I've had the pleasure of trying.

Filler: Dominican and Cuban
Binder: Canary islands
Wrapper: Cuban

Hand made in Ricardo Alvarez Concepcions Factory

The wrapper was very unusual, having the look of a speckled egg it is also extremely smooth.

Construction was perfect, and it had a nice prelight smell and feel to it.

After lighting this cigar settled into an almost PSD#4 taste with alot of billowing grey smoke and a tight light grey ash. Not a mild cigar to say the least, it had such a pleasant aroma and taste that I didn't mind the fact that it was slowly but surely giving me one hell of a rush. The finish was slightly astringent with hints of leather, but that might have just been the smoke from my singed finger-tips.

I'm willing to bet that for anyone outside of Finland this may be a hard cigar to find. Google brought me no information on this cigar what so ever, and in this day and age that is saying alot. But if your ever up in the European Artic Circle... pick a few of these up, heck get a box if you can, you won't be dissapointed.

The shape is weird, not very standard. Is that the original location of the band?

How is it possible for this cigar to have "Cuban" filler and wrapper?

You will have to ask Ekans that, its the info he gave me.

:) Good find, wish I spoke Finnish, what did you use for your search parameters Moki?

*edit* and thats about what they want for a PSD#4 here in germany before taxes.

These pique my interest quite a bit, I've always wondered about the possiblility of a Cuban non-puro, and one with Canary Islands' tobacco? Given the opportunity I would love to try one. If they are, in fact, genuine. Will Cuba sell tobacco to manufacturers for production outside the country?

Well like I said it tasted very cuban, I think we first need to findout where the Ricardo Alvarez Concepcions Factory is located. It could well be that cuba can and does sell tobacco to countries that have no part of the embargo.

As for me, I am planning on having my boss pick me up some more of these next week when he goes to Finland to purchase a few tons of soapstone.

Cuba does sell tobacco; I've had some Dutch cigars that are part Cuban tobacco, part tobacco from other countries, blended in The Netherlands.

I go to Holland every once in a while to visit a friend of mine who lives in Eindhoven, what brand is it Moki? I'd like to try them.

Dunno, but I can ask for ya. Go to Haijenis (I always spell it wrong) in Amsterdam, they carry a few different similarly blended cigars.

Thanks!

Never been to Amsterdam, but I can see that I find my way there on my next trip North.

Ahhh,

You mean P.G.C. Hajenius. Very nice shop. They make some very nice smaller cigars. I like their Sumatra selection boxes.

Another cigar that uses cuban filler is Goya.
It is also from the Canary Islands.

Goya cigars
Goya - a complete Cuba-Cigar (Filling, binder, wrapper). Well rolled cigar with strong-rich aromatic-taste. Very harmonic, cuba-typical.

I've had those before! :0 They come in neat wooden boxes with analoge hygrometers built into them. I remember liking the 2 I bought quite a bit.

Thanks for the link!

I'm glad you liked it and congrats to moki who found the finnish store

edit: I think the band has moved, it's supposed to go an inch more to the middle

I've been looking for these since talking to a guy about them at a winery in Amador. The winery owners are Dutch and he was saying they aren't half bad but do have a distinct taste that isn't for everyone. Oh yes, this converstion got started because I had my "Got Puros?" t-shirt on.

Got to love those FINS!

An interesting series of events...

After reading this thread and clicking through on the link that Moki posted, I thought, wonder what these guys charge for a 3-pack. So my Finnish is a bit rough, (actually non-existent) but I thought what the heck I've shopped enough on line, I'll be able to click thru a few clicks until I see the Euro amount, as long as I don't enter payment info the order won't process. So I get to the place where you'd normally enter your form of payment, and it gave me a total of 26.60 Euros. I thought well let me see what the group buy folks on line here come up with and perhaps I'll try a couple of these. So I closed out the window and left the site.

Then in a day or so I received this email:

"Hey! Thank you for your oder.
We send your oder today. There are invoice included.
Invoice is in euros.
We put a little bit more fee to post fee(just 80 sent more than it usually are)
Amount to pay 27,20 euros.
You must ´pay it in international bank. and you need IBAN and SWIFT codes too, when you pay it.
If you can´t pay it in international bank, you can also sent us a check.

regars Marianne Mattila"

So I thought WOW perhaps they are sending them. Sure enough, yesterday I received the following:

finlandia_1.jpg

finlandia_2.jpg

finlandia_3.jpg

Never seen that type of packaging before, pretty nice. Very interesting stick, nice construction and a good aroma.

So now I need to pay them. I actually have a bank account in Europe so I think I can bank transfer them the Euros. They have given me the IBAN and SWIFT codes. Never done it before, so we'll see.

I'm looking forward to firing one of these up, do they need to rest for a while or are they ready to go?

So hey WURM, thanks for pointing these out to us. :D
