F'ed Ex broke the Bubinga humidor.

I've yet to receive something that was broken by UPS, personally. Good old Post Office is also on a winning streak with me so far!

+1 for UPS, they haven't screwed anything up for me either.

I like UPS but we received a large, mirror this past Friday. We opened it up and it was smashed all to living hell. This was the only time I've ever had an issue with UPS.

UPS has a great reputation for handling insurance claims, no jerking around like FedUP and USPS.

I've never been hugely impressed with DHL.

One more reason to not use DHL for domestic shipping:

As of November 10, 2008 DHL Express U.S. no longer accepts Domestic Express and Ground shipments, unless a valid DHL account number is used for payment.

COD service will be discontinued effective December 19, 2008. The last day COD shipments will be accepted is December 31, 2008. Please make alternate arrangements for these shipments.

Please note: The service guarantees for DHL’s U.S. domestic products end on November 17, 2008.

Here's a DHL story.

I came home one day and out in the snow is a small package for someone at "6B" Ridge Road. My address is "63" Ridge Road. Sure enough, it's been delivered by DHL.

It wasn't inside my storm door or even very near the step, it was just laying out there in the snow at the back of my house.

So I call these idiots at DHL to tell them they delivered this to the wrong address. The tell ME to "schedule a pick up." Yeah, that's gonna happen.

I said, "Look, I'm tossing it back in the snow just like your a$$hat driver who can't read did. From this point on, you can do what you want."

Turned out it was essentially junk mail from a cruise ship company that was informing the guy at 6B Ridge Road that his inlaws had booked a cruise for him and his wife which he already knew about anyway.

A few days later, I noticed the package wasn't no longer out in the snow bank so I guess DHL came by and picked it up. Either that or the skunks or the raccoons made off with it in the middle of the night.

I had shipped a 140 lb JBL amplifier in for service in a big wood crate. UPS lost it and had to pay for it. A year later it showed back up. Never left Tucson, was never recieved by JBL.

The humidor weighs about 15 lbs., who do you guys recommend as the safest shipper?

Safest shipper? In my experience, that would be Fedex Express, not Fedex Ground.

Fedex Express only flies packages on airplanes. Fedex Ground is a trucking company like UPS.

Judging from the condition of my arriving packages, they are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

YMMV. :D

I don't have an airport in my backyard so how does the package get from the airplane to my house? ???

Oh, a follow up on the mirror. The company sent a call tag to pick up the broken mirror. Two day later, we received the replacement. It too was smashed to all living hell. I have to say though, these cheap-$hit mirrors come from China  and odds are they are already broken long before they come into the hands of UPS.

Well, the humidor made it back to me safely. I'll fix it this weekend and get it right back out asap.

Any luck ordering some of those foam packs, Bill? I hope those work out well for you! Are you going to post up pictures of the work you do on the Bubinga? It's always a treat to see your work!

Well, as much as I want to use the foam packs, there 7.00 buck each. That's not bad but they want me to buy 36 at a time. We'll see how sales go  Thanks though. If I can find a resource where I can buy a few at a time I'll be all over it.

BTW it's repaired and shipping out today.

Well, it's on its way again. This time with USPS. I wrapped it in celophane, firm foam a box, peanuts and another box and wrote fragile all over it. If it breaks this time, I'm gonna be the one going postal.

I got delivery confirmation. He recieved it. I haven't heard if it made it safely but I'll keep you posted. I sure hope so.

Great news!! Heard from Mike and It made is w/o damage. I have a new way of packaging them so it should neverbe an issue again. I'd hate to have to stop using my wood hinges.

Bill took real good care of me and my humidor. He repaired the hinges that FedUp broke and sent it back to me in 2 days. Ill be posting some pics of the new humi soon. It is un-believeable. His craftmanship is beyond belief. A true BOTL. Thanks Bill
