I am new to fine cigars and am putting together a 20-25 sampler for myself of assorted five packs.
So I've got a couple questions....
1.I'd like to know your favorite cigars for less than $5. If I can be more specific, what are some that are liked by all in general rather than an oddball favorite?
2.Also, what are your favorite cigarillos? Please list an avg. retail
3.Who makes a good yet cheap humidor that holds 25 cigars?
4. Anyone tried the La Unica 100 or any of this brand? Its a big freakin honker...

I just noticed that my first question was asked not long ago, and i apologize for asking that. However, to by benefit, there was more than just that one question to my post.

I'll take a crack at answering you.

1) Anything in Padron's regular line. They are all inexpensive but it depends on what size you like. For me, hands down the Ambassador or Londres (lancero and corona sizes) If you like heftier smokes then the "thousand" series is for you.

2) Ilike the Cohiba clubs personally. Obviously not available in the US though.

3) Check out cheaphumidors.com or dare I say it... Thompson. I've had three Thompson desktops and NEVER had any issues with them.

4) La Unica maduros are a nice golf course smoke, the bigger the better....

Enjoy

In response to a couple of your questions...

1. The Padron Delicias Maduro is towards the top of my list for cigars under 3 bucks. Also, the Padron 2000 (slightly larger), is a great value as well and not much more than the Delicias. The Don Pepin Blue Label Invictos and is another terrific cigar that can now be found for about five bucks; just make sure you like full bodied smokes first! The Don Pepin Cuban Classic Robusto 1979 is also a very fine cigar for about 5 bucks - full bodied and spicy. Also, the LFD Double Ligero Chisel is a solid full-bodied smoke. However, depending on where you buy it, you may be a little outside the $5 range (but it's worth it if you like full bodied cigars).

3. I would recommend that you ask instead "who makes a good yet cheap humidor that holds 150 cigars?" I've never met a person who has ever said that they bought to large of a humi, however, just about everyone I've met will tell you that at one time or another, they wish they had bought a larger one. At any rate, a couple of sites that you can check out:

www.tampahumidor.com
www.cheaphumidors.com

Good luck -

1) Padron 2000, Fuente Cuban Beli, Perdomo Fresco natural and maduro, Oliva series G.

2) I like the Rocky Patel Sungrown Juniors.

3) Cheaphumidors.com or the Cigar Pass Store

4) no

I will siggest you try the Newbie sampler trade that is offered on this site. It is a great way for a beginner to get a nice selection of smokes at a fantastic value.

1. Peterson Gran Reserva, Onyx Reserve, 5 Vegas 'A'

3. I have picked up several of the brand-logo humidors on cbid, and have spent under $10 on each. Just make sure it includes the humidification element.

CAO Brazilia Gol
La Gloria Cubaba Serie R #5 Maduro

And, like others have said, don't go with the 25 count 'dor. First off, you'll find it actually holds closer to 15 smokes, and second - you will grow out of that almost immediately.

Agree and would add Fonseca Cosacos if kwebun cigars were legal, but since I can't buy them, I would like to add Oliva O perfectos and AF Rothchild sungrowns. Those are some of my favorite under $5, not great after dinner stuff but ok for a commute.

I see the Rothschild on cigarsinternational but it doesn't say sungrown. Is this the same?

I apologize, I did mean Chateau, they are very similar in size if not the same and I am used to calling that size a "Rothchild". Again sorry about the poor description. Nevertheless, sungrown is not the same as regular, they are in cedar with a black band at the bottom, while the regular ones have a green band, and they taste a bit better as well.

I have always been impressed with Consuegra maduros as a great cheap smoke. Last week I accidently picked up a padron Londres thinking it was a Connie because the bands look at lot alike. I started smoking it and thought--"Gee that's a bad tasting Connie". Then I looked at the band.

For cigarillos, I like the Macobas made in germany or several other european dry-cured cigars. Very tasty for a quickie.

I think that your other questions have been answered quite adequately.

Yes-the newbie trade is a great opportunity to procure a good sampling of sticks.

Can't find sungrown chateau's at cigarsinternational either. they just have reg. chateau. Can the chateau sungrowns be easily found eleswhere?

Is the cedar for looks or to keep them fresh, or other?

Also, I'm assuming that most companies with a great rep. such as AF, Partagas, etc. always make reasonably priced smaller cigars. What are some of the better lonsdale, petite corona, and corona's on the market for under 5? In essence I am rephrasing my question about cigarillos thinking that a medium smoke would better fit my needs than a very short smoke.

I suppose the cedar will keep them a tiny bit more moist since cedar holds the moisture, but it helps keep the wrapper leaf in tact. I think it is more for packaging and presentation than anything. You can also use the cedar to light the cigar, it is one of the preferred methods used by many.

Are you saying is that any cigar wrapped in cedar is sungrown, like the CAO black line?

hello barryman,

i am fairly new to fine cigars and it is usually a rare (special) occasion that i get a chance to smoke a cigar. please keep in mind that the following is my opinion and that i only have hand-rolled long-filler dominican churchills in my humidor and i tend to pass on sticks that contain any NIC or HON content. also, i am still in the purchasing-singles-before-committing-to-full-box-quantities phase.

with that being said, here goes...

1. the only one that fits my criteria are arturo fuente churchills. others come close to but not under the $5 figure even in box quantities.

2. my opinion on cigarillos is that they are not worth my time. i would rather enjoy one great cigar than a tin of 10 cigarillos.

3. jr cigar currently has a deal where you get a free montecristo humidor when you buy a box of 20 or it is $10 if you buy a box of 10. keep in mind it does not include a humidifier or hygrometer. but, if you like montecristos, it is a great way to get started.

4. no. i prefer churchills (7 x 48 give or take).

hope this helps.

thanks,
mike

Oh, I forgot another good one:

Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 (with the gold label).

I really like these cigars. They can be found for around $4.00 each. The toro is my favorite size but I'll take whatever size I can get my hands on.

How many can you fit in your humidor? If i did it, i would go with 10 No 3 and the humidor for 10 bucks more. How do you know which cigars contain NIC and HON? Alos, i saw some pressed cigars for cheaper. Machine pressed square, right? How are the quality of these
