El Cheapo Smoke of the Day - 2023

Gurkha Vintage 2001.

Cigars International had a "pick your own sampler" weekly special on these - and an additional 25% off...... so (technically) this one fits into the "El Cheapo" category at $2.58/ea, delivered.

Dominican, Dominican filler, Cameroon binder, Connecticut wrapper.

Medium smoke that burned nicely all the way to the nub.

Ya'all know that I am the King of el cheapo cigars, but these "fresh packs" of Remington cigars (by Gurkha) showed up in my mailbox - sorta as a joke. I tried in vain to smoke some of these, and failed - so I threw a hygrometer into two of the "packs" and after a couple of days they both read 66%. Must be OK, right ?

Not to be dissuaded, I started passing them around to my friends.

Consensus: They stink. They burn wonky. Foul taste.

Smoker #1 - What is this (censored) ?
Smoker #2 - Horses**t and splinters?
Smoker #3 - REALLY ?????
Smoker #4 - Ewwwwww GROSS !!!

And there you have it. Their only redeeming trait is that they were free.

Now accepting bids for the rest of the lot. Surely some of you have some sort of self persecution complex, hate yourself, or have some other twisted curiosity complex.

Raji's Untimely Demise in the handy Churchill size.
Everyday price of $1.65, but they can be had for less than a dollar.

Mild Dominican with an thin Ecuador Connecticut wrapper.
Loosely constructed and overall sorta squishy - but it burned well and stayed lit, all the way to the end.
Decent smoke, for less than a dollar.

5 Vegas Classic - Corona.

These were a bit pricey for "El Cheapo", but they were on sale for about $2.50/ea (wooden box of 25).

Medium stick from Nicaragua, with Dominican & Nicaraguan fillers - and a Sumatra wrapper.

Of the eight of these that I've smoked, they all burned long, nice and even, and stayed lit. Not too shabby.
:)

The neighbor lady gave me these, in a ziplock bag that she had kept in the freezer "from when my son used to smoke cigars".

I thawed them out, and they've been in the humidor for a few months, until today when curiosity got the better of me.
Miraculously, they both smoked well.

La Differencia Cubana ! Churchill, no less.

A mellow Dominican with a Nicaraguan sun grown wrapper.

About $1.65

Well constructed, burned well, and stayed lit.
Nice stick with morning coffee, and smoked waaay above the price point.

🙂

The short story is that I got "fresh packs" of these in the mail, as a joke. Some medium with green bands, and some mild with these yellow bands. The green banded cigars suck.

This yellow banded Remington cigar was well constructed, burned well, and stayed lit. It sucked less than the green bands. Still, I would not recommend them.

Duque (pronounced "du-kay") 7 x 50. A mellow+ smoke from one of my super-discount sampler packs.
Everyday online price $1.50.

Dominican, with Dominican Cuban-sandwich style filler, and a Sumatra wrapper.

This one was a well behaved, pleasant smoke.

Queue the famous Ron Mexico Churchill. A fine Dominican cigar with an Connecticut wrapper that goes for a buck-fifty at your finer online establishments.

It's a wonderfully mild cigar that paired well with some equally wonderful instant coffee on this fine, fine Friday morning.
