Sorry to hear about how things turned out for you. I was just talking to Bob at Aristocrat yesterday about this very thing. He was saying that the humidors are usually completed in a week or two, but that he lets them sit for another 4 to 6 weeks to make sure nothing warps.

Most likely the outer box is MDF or baltic birch with a laminated wood veneer. When one uses real wood its a difficult project and it enhances the cost way over 1.000$. Like they say, you get what you pay for.
