Dumb question.....

I've got a hygro in the bottom of my tall cabinet and son of a gun if it isn't dead on with the reading on the Habitat Monitor.  What I have been doing is making sure I don't pile the boxes so dense that I block the airflow between shelves, and it really works great.  Kudos to Bob on his design.

....though, with more boxes inbound (yes, I'm weak) I may have to fire up a cooler anyway...!  Or sell off some more stuff..... :whistling:

That's exactly what I'm doing, I have gone as far as not putting any boxes on top of the whole column where the humidifier canister is located but the humidity readings are still way off from the very bottom to the top part of the cabinet. Also, I have noticed that the fans do not turn on every 20 minutes as stated on the instructions, they only come on when the humidity drops to 63% which is when the humidifier kicks in any ways.

I have a suggestion you might like: buy a second identical hygrometer and see what battery is inside it.

Ridiculous idea, you say?  Not at all.  The second hygrometer will go into the second humidor (possibly a tupperdor or coolerdor) that you already know you want anyway!

(I started with just a little tupperdor, 'way back when.  Today I have two 50-count desktops, a 100-count desktop, a 5-count traveldor and two 15-count traveldors; one more visit to the Devil Site, a.k.a. CigarBid.com, and I'll need a tupperdor or two to hold everything!  Come to think of it, I could use more hygrometers and that little one might be just the thing for the traveldors or tupperdors.)

Good  suggestion, but I don't think Tom will need a tupperdor for quite some time, haha.  Stick around and you'll transition to the Aristocrat club as well :)

Wyatt, now that you mentioned the Aristocrat and I know that this is off topic but how is the R/H at the very bottom part of your M Plus? Also, how does it changes from shelve to shelve. Thanks.

My habitat control measures between 65.1 and 65.5 depending on where it is in the cycle.  Both top drawers and all shelves measure +/- 2% to that as well (probably more of a hygrometer variance than actual humidity variance).

I keep boxes out of the way of the back corners, which serve as the humidification flow tunnels for the system.  Being that mine is wide rather than tall, I don't have any issues getting RH up to the top.

Thank you for the suggestions gentlemen. I have the M Plus as well Wyatt and my boxes are also out of the way of the back corners. I only have one large humidity canister (unlike you that have 2) and it is placed on the right side corner towards the back so that it could reach the humidity sensor with more ease.

I'm going to have to contact Bob over the weekend.

OK, got the battery assortment, and BINGO....it's an AG10 / 389.  Working great now.....Thomas and Gary, thanks a ton for the advice......!!

i know some people used to use Oust! fans (minus the air-freshener juice) to circulate the air in large humidors.  I haven't seen those in years, but Amazon does have some battery-operated fans that might serve the purpose of evening the humidity throughout your humidor.  It should be fairly simple to modify one with a more substantial power supply, and maybe a timer of some sort to turn it on a few times per day.

Thank you. The cabinet already has 4 fans in there, I guess adding a few more wouldn't hurt.

You have enough fans already.  You can upgrade your controller to the newer version that cycles the fans periodically.  I had a conversation with Bob when I thought my 'S&F' was flakey (turns out it wasn't).  He told me that it's not uncommon to have to replace the controller after 7-10 years.  When mine is due, I'll upgrade as well.

More fans is not the answer in my opinion.  Bob has built his systems with optimal amount of fans need per the volumn of the humidor, and even more importantly, placed the fans in the correct spots to move the humidity so that it distributes properly.

I would look at upgrading the S&F and go from there.

I've called Bob when setting up a buddy's humidor that wasn't even an Aristocrat.  He was very helpful in placement of fans and size of resevoir and things.  I really encourage you to give him a call, explain the issue and take whatever recommendation he gives.  He's the man.

Mine has the intermittent fans. I also leave enough room for air to move around the boxes. I basically leave the corner of each shelf over the humidifier open, and then a couple of inches between the boxes. Seems to be working well.

The S&F is brand new, about a month old I would say. Dan, I will ask Bob how to setup the intermittent fans, as I mentioned before, they are supposed to come on every 20 minutes but aren't doing so, they only come on when the humidity drops to 63% which is also when the humidifier canister is activated. I will contact him this weekend for sure. Again, apologies to Tom for taking over this post with unrelated questions.

No apology necessary.....good discussion for those of us with nice cabinets......

You have to wonder just how many Staebell owners there are in these pages, anyway.  More than you'd guess, I'm thinking.....

When I first saw the cabinet in person, right then and there I realized what all the fuss was about. Beautiful craftsmanship.

Did you check the inside of the battery door?

It usually has a stamping on it.

Or you can get it re-calibrated or a new board put in.

7-10 years of replacement....sounds like a money maker!

The battery door is tiny....no markings on the hygro, anywhere.

I had the same problem a few years ago. Rather than have the original control unit recalibrated, I opted to get the new model from Bob. Mine was almost 14yo. The new control module works very well and cleared up my uneven humidity issues.

Thank you Gary, this is a brand new control unit. Perhaps it's a defective one. I will see what Bob says when I call him.
