Donations for Tasman

I am not completely clear on how all this works out, but I guess I will figure it out. I am in.

If the Taz pass is what the community thinks what will be good I would be happy to take the names and come up of a list of people and when to send. I would still like to know what the community thinks would be a good time frame somebody every 2 weeks? Also if anyone else has any idea's let us know.

Best Regards
Don

Nah, no pass for me. I would designate a taker/shipper for a once per month shipment of cigars, pipe tobacco, magazines, and maybe some homemade goodies. If yall want to send sought after items, just google it. Baby wipes, chewing gum, water flavoring powder, etc. Brush up also on what you CANNOT send. Alcohol and smut - big no no.

I would be happy to help in the coordination of this effort.

Mike (preembargo) will still be the main "go to" but anything you want to send me, I'll make sure it gets to Dean. I'll coordinate with Mike about a regular shipping schedule.

DO BE MINDFUL OF THE "NO-NO" LIST. They don't call it Order #1 for nothing. There is no flexibility.

There is another guy, Michael (Lurch) who we also send OPFtH goodies to. Keep him in your thoughts as well.

One last thing, the treats are nice. The guys love to get the stuff. But something they love even more are the personal notes from the people that send it. Think about sending a short letter or note with your goodies. Share something meaningful because it means a lot to them to hear your story. I'll make sure the package and the notes stay together.

The addy in my profile is a work address and they deliver pretty early in the mornings. That's a good thing this time of year. Also, send your packages early in the week so they don't sit in the heat all weekend. I'll stage it from here then work with Mike for a regular delivery.

Mike, I hope you are cool with this because I felt like I was just supposed to step up. I'll be in touch soon.

Thanks to everyone who feels led to help out. It is definitely a worthy cause.

Gary

So you would take control of receiving the items and sending them out once a month? I think this would work out good also. Would the rest of the people who said they are interested in helping be in favor of this? Thank you NullSmurf for offering to take the lead on this and I also will offer to help with the shipping costs.

Don, there are other volunteers for that. I would be a poor choice. However, I already have a spread of dogrockets set out for Dean!

Beef Jerky, Homemade cookies, baby wipes, sunflower seeds, dried fruit, hand sanitizer, cigars, pens, newspapers, juice, pictures.....

This is just a small list of things that we love to get over here. My time is almost up so there is no need to send me diddly but Dean's time has just begun. I think an organized effort would be an amazing gesture on the part of CP. One thing to take into consideration is shipping costs. On one weekend before I left, OpFTH in Texas put together over 50 boxes to ship out. I'm not quite sure who fronts the shipping costs but whoever does.....God Bless them. A small donation to OpFTH goes a long way when they're trying to ship multiple boxes.

If everyone pooled their resources I'm pretty sure a very nice box could be put together on a monthly basis. One month, instead of sending out 5 bombs just send out 4 and send the other to the Tasman box organizer. Maybe even throw in a couple bucks to offset the shipping costs. I know when I get back home I would definatley like to be one of the box organizers. Tas has been an amazing BOTL whenever we've interacted and I owe him that and much more.

I would be more than willing to help with shipping costs as well as donating items still waiting to hear back from my PM.

Best Regards
Don

Ok just heard back from sonuvabum he will be the person who collects the items and he will work with preembargo who heads up the care packages for the troops. I will be sending some stuff on Monday 6/30/08.

2 Opus X RDC

1 AF Signature maddie

1 Illisone 888

1 La Riqueza beli

some playing cards and sunflower seeds and a couple of magazines and a money order for $15 to help with shipping costs.

I would like to thank Sonuvabum for taking this on along with Preembargo for this fine effort for our troops and for Tasman our BOTL. I believe the addy in Sonuvabum profile is where to send the items but I will double check that.

Best Regards
Don

You guys are unbelievable and I appreciate everything! The number one thing that we do have in the tents is A/C. So I will be going to buy a cooler and ........ yep you got it. It's COOLIDOR time!

Love them dog rockets Bruce!

The addy is correct and General Order #1 does apply: No alcohol and supposedly no smut.

The PO would not know an ISOM if they seen it but either way is deeply appreciated. Trying to get the smoking section revised, we have big ideas and nothing but time!

The ROUGH RIDER soldiers will appreciate it!

This board rocks!
Dean

Just a update the addy in Sonuvabum profile is the correct address to send the donated items to. Thank you to everyone who joins this effort. This is why CP is best

Dean,

How are you guys set for pipes out there? If I drop a can of pipe tobacco on you, are there enough pipe smokers around to burn it before it dries up?

Also keep in mind that the box will VERY likely spend some time in transport enjoying the Baghdad sun. Don't put anything in the box that will go liquid or appreciably expand above about 100 degrees or so. The heat will not overly harm the cigars.

I'm not an Army guy, Dean. Send us some info on your unit, the Rough Riders, I presume?

Yes, as of right now the Chaplain (CP Lima Whisky) is recruiting pipe smokers, he is up to about 4 soldiers and he keeps his tobacco in an ammo can.

Bruce is right about the heat! Outside is about 90 to 110 degrees and in the shipping containers is about 120 to 130 degrees. From the last deployment we had really good luck. No issues with the PO.

Bruce,
I plan on posting a newsletter with pictures

The Rough Riders do it ALL, except maintenance!

Beans
Bullets
Water
Fuel
Supplies
Equipment
Transportation
and Patrols

Hey guys, I'd love to get in on this as well. In fact, let me see if I can get the guys at my law firm involved too! Tell me, is there a local hub where we can meet and put all our cigars together and send it in one large package? I feel that'd make the logistics easier plus give an excuse to herf! Let me know... I can even help set up the event!
