I dont pay right now, but another BM requires it. I do have a locker at my BM and that is a yearly fee. I would pay if I had to though, as I really enjoy the conversation at my BM.

Edit: after readint the whole OP, I would neverpay more than $400 a year including a private locker. And I doubt people will pay $600 a year for free refreshments and a poker table. Good Luck with the shop though!

I'm with Brandon on this one. I love the idea, and would pay for such a thing, however it would be no more than $300 a year.

Sounds like you have some great ideas for a nice lounge. Personally, I can't see spending $550/year for a place to smoke. Then again, I'm in So Cal so the weather isn't really that bad. Even though it's cold outside during the winter there are still restaurants/lounges with heated patios. I'd be more willing to pay an entrance fee into your lounge on a per visit basis. For instance, I'd pay up to $20 per visit, just to be able to bring my own cigars and have a place to smoke them. Maybe $10 with a two drink min. Other than that, I wouldn't pay for a yearly membership; just seems too expensive. Especially if I'm not going to be there at least 2 or 3 times a week.

There are a couple of cigar shops with lounges in my area. One of them is very nice actually. Downside is that you can't smoke your own cigars there. You have to smoke what you buy. Taxes and rent are high, so you're looking at $15 for a semi decent cigar. I wish they would just charge $10 for me to smoke my own cigars.

Hope this helps!

That sucks. Not that way here at all in the B&M's I hit. What if you bought a cigar there six months ago and left with it? You put that particular stick in your cigar case one day, stroll into that B&M and want to light it up and shoot the breeze. What then? The problem becomes maybe not having enough time on the day you bought the cigar, but wanting to come back at some point and herf. Seems like they would have enough faith in their own sales skills to not have such a policy. Besides, most of the time, when I am at the B&M, I invariably end up in the walk-in, picking out a few sticks on my own or with something they point out has come in. Implementing the same type of policy there would seem to make more sense, and get people more willing to return again and again.

we have very mild winters here, so you can almost smoke outside these days without much worry. however most people dont want to smoke in 105 degree weather between june and october, so i think thats where it would be benificial. also, id do somethings special for the members once a season or so. for instance, we had a tasting for our locker members last month that consisted of 15 year old scotch and monte #2's. 100% complimentary.

I normally smoke in a local place (Churchill's), free of charge. I smoke, have a beer, if it's a slow Saturday, I hang in the front and chat with the owner. If it's busy, I'll grab a leather chair with some pals and watch a game or talk (and watch the "talent" walking by). I don't think I'd pay unless that possiblity wasn't available.

There is nowhere to smoke here. The few places that allow smoking do not allow cigars, only cigarettes. The lone shop in town has two leather chairs and a TV, but it's very cramped. Plus, they sell "other" smoking implements so the incense "aroma' ruins any atmosphere (and most of their cigars :( ).

I'd pay, but not more than $30-$40 monthly. I think including lockers would add to the value tremendously. Everyone needs a place to hide some of their stash from the wife, don't they? ;)

Got a yes out of me, for the same reasons....If it came with Serious PERKS. Special Events...Storage....Good ALIBI....

I voted no because I don't belong to any here in Denver who do charge. There are several with lounges who do not. I do consider that for those I visit for a smoke, its good form to patronize the host. I have noted that chatting with either the owner or the counter person, there is always a recent story regarding people who abuse the lounge, i.e. loud, abusive, smoke cigarettes, etc. Almost always, the assholes don't buy from the store either. If I were an owner, I would institute a "liberal" membership policy where I would restrict to members, but invite my regular customers as well.

My favorite local shop is membership. When I want to meet a buddy there for a smoke, we usually buy something from the humi, but also "bribe" the counter person with something he doesn't sell, then enjoy. I don't go often enough to warrant the $50/month.

Great topic Marc!

This is something some of the Spud Bro's have been kicking around for some time. We have very limited "nice" places to smoke in public here in Boise. Our thoughts were something similar but as a "lounge" primarily, byob, etc, with some sort of retail to keep a steady income. I'd love to know what you decide to do.

Depends...Like would that include a free locker in the humidor. Would I be allowed to have Scotch in the private room while I am enjoying a cigar. What lines would seperate the common lounge from a private lounge is the key. What benefits would the private lounge give other than hey look at me I'm the cool kid on the block. Reason I say this is because you can meet a whole bunch of people in a common lounge and have a time of your life. But in a secluded hey look at me I'm cool private area, you may not have that experience. Like I said...it would depend what it offers me like maybe once a month a discount on cigars I smoke only at the store or something that makes a huge difference and is a plus to me. I just simply love chatting with strangers.

I have a great lounge here...so it would also be hard for me to say yes...if membership ever became an issue due to anti smoking laws, i think the people here at the shop are the kind of people that make make you become a member so you could go back there, but wouldn't charge...I have it nice at that shop, hope to goodness they never start charging...

I recall recently that guy from NJ who just built a private lounge with memberships, around the Morristown area if I recall correctly. The idea of having access to this lounge whenever I would want it was nice. Whereas I'm sure your lounge would only be open when the shop is open.

If its the one I'm thinking of, there is no shop. Its just a club composed of cigar smokers. THAT I would pay for. Marc, are there any plans for a liquor license?

If anyone knows any info on that place, please let me know. I'm in Morristown occasionally on business and would like to see if they have "guest passes" for a day or two.

If the smoking ban in Louisville goes through this year. Then yea I would pay but it would have to sort out the riff raff... Have a dress code and all those things.. It's almost going to have be like prohibition days, with speakeasys...
