Disappointed with Holts

So I got on Holts the other day in search of some VSGs. They had what I thought to be a great 5 sampler for $45 so I ordered that and a couple single VSGs to go with it.

I never receive an email order confirmation, so I check my bank account. Sure enough the purchase is there in "Pending" status. So I wait a couple days and still nothing. I email them with order number and info and ask to please receive a status on the order...nothing. So I email 3 days in a row, just asking for a status, if your out of stock fine, just let me know and cancel the order...still no response. I would have called, but it can be a heck of an adventure trying to do so from over here.

Finally after 6 days the "pending" status comes off my bank account and the purchase just disappears. Well I guess they're out of stock and canceled my order, though who can be sure, since they never once let me know anything at all.

I've heard good things about Holts so I'm sure this is an isolated case, but not too encouraging.

Luckily a good bruddah of the leaf, bfreebern, hooked me up with a few other sources, both of which emailed me the same day listing their exact stockage and welcoming my order.

Order was put in and I'm now good to hook with VSGs enroute.

Anyone else have any information flow problems with Holts, or just me?
 
I bought my first box of cigars from them 35 yrs. ago. and to this day I've always been happy with their service. Perhaps they couldn't be bothered with sending them to an APO and were too embarrassed to tell you.

I've actually had great service from them... called me whan a backorder was in and took care of everything from there for me.

Too bad they dropped the ball on this one- one would hope it's an isolated event?
 
I too have ordered several times from Holt and been satisfied with the results. Hopefully it was a one time occurence.
 
Well, definitely sounds like an isolated event.

I would have called but with a 4 sec delay, and that's even if I can get through from over here, it makes for a very hard conversation. I've tried it once with a customer service rep for a seperate issue, I got hung up on like 5 times (not Holts, totally different thing).

Anyway, I guess what's important is that I do have some VSGs inbound. I'm sure I'll give Holts another try in the near future. They've got some good samplers on there.
 
I've never had a problem with Holts. And the couple times I had cigars damaged, I wrote them and got an immediate response. They even next day shipped the replacements. But since they are changing the Loyalty Rewards system and all, this could be why you fell through the cracks on this isolated case.
 
UPDATE:

Well in a very welcomed change of events I have gotten a full update on my order with Holts.

All that I had ordered actually shipped about 4 days ago, there was just some miscommunication issues between us probably due to their spam control and I wasn't made aware of it until today.

A customer representative for Holts contacted me via email and apologized for the lack of communication and gave me a full update on my order.

So, as consistant with everyone elses opinions on Holt's Cigar Company. They have made good on their end and proven to be a company who provides good service and customer support.

That is all :)
 
Holts is where my Granddad used to take me to when buying his cigars.

I have very pleasant memories of the Philly shop and its one of the reasons I'm a cigar smoker today. It is also the first shop I bought cigars for myself from oh so long ago. The Levin family is an honorable one, I always remember Mr. Albert Levin greeting my Granddad as a friend.

Very glad to hear everything worked out for the best. I would have been surprised to have heard anything different.
 
Glad to see they took care of you. I've been stopping in Holt's on and off for 25+ years and they have always done me well.

In the future, the way to deal with that 4 second delay is to tell the person you are calling about it.

"Hi, I'm "so and so" calling from "which and what". We are on a 4 second delay. When I am done talking I will say "stop" and you will know it is your turn to respond. When you are done talking you say "stop" and I will respond. Okay? Stop." Works like a charm.

Hey Brickhouse I am glad they took care of you. When I was over there last year it was Thompsons I had trouble with shipping to me......that was before I knew where to go lol. Happy smoking! After running 4 or 5 missions in a row a good cigar was the only thing that kept me sane.

I'm glad to hear they took care of you. Holt's has been good to me in the past. Must be about 7 or 8 years that I've been using them.

By the way, it's perfectly acceptable to trash Eric Turner aka TBSCigars here. He threatened to sue Rod about a year and a half ago. That didn't go over well. ;)

By the way, I'm not banned on that board. The site admin put a word filer on "Administrator" and "Moderator" for one's custom member title but he forgot "Banned" LMAO!
