Dealing With Plugged Smokes

A lot of times that I have a plug or a poor draw, I am out on the bike and have to make whatever I brought work. I usually have to resort to a thin green twig. Don`t use anything dried or it will break off. I have never had a problem doing this- and it usually makes the cigar smokable. I have gotton pickier at what I smoke too- brands like perdomo and padilla don`t make it into the humidor, and thus have stopped most problems. I do agree that a bit below 70 makes a big difference too.

Forget all these tools and tips. You just need to follow 3 simple rules:

1. Find trash can.
2. Throw the plugged cigar in said trash can.
3. Get another cigar.

Seriously, 1 out of 10, maybe 20 plugged cigars will be salvaged. It's just not worth messing with.

...yeah. What he said.

I had a cab of some really nice cigars and son of a gun, about half of this batch were plugged. I tried drills, shis-ka-bob sticks, screws, etc. and they either didn't work well or they split the gar. Now, plugged sticks get a moment of silence and respect....then they get tossed.

There is no way I am going to throw away a $12+ cigar in the garbage without some sort of fight.. :) I'm sticking with my drill bit.

I have tried several things including a metal kabob skewer end results 90% of time file 13. when this happens it just p%sses me off i have been known to throw them at things when they do this.

Try this link.... Excellent Pokers.

I have a couple and they work great. Get one with the serrated tip. Instead of splittin', it saws out the tobacco and opens 'em up. :)

I had a box of Ashton Prime Ministers gifted for Christmas in the mid 1990's from my wife. Mind you this was peak Cigar market period. A lot of green cigars were being rushed to market.

Every one was plugged. I aged the entire box and they "unplugged" in about 12 months. After 3 years they were as great as many super premiums.

Just an idea. Not sure if it applies today.

I'm not sure if this thing actually works (I've never tried), but it seems to be what you are looking for.

Fortunately I don't have this problem very often, only one or two cigars in the past year. However, I too have the drawpoker and have found it to work pretty well. It does help to keep the cigar in the poker for a little while instead of just piercing and pulling out (or the cigar sometimes gets plugged up again).
