De La Hoya vs. Mayweather

Well, back from Vegas and, seeing this fight first hand, I can say it was one hell of a fight. As I suspected, this wasn't going to be a brawl and would come down to strategy and technical aspects. While I freely disclose my bias, I still think it wasn't one that should have been judged in Mayweather, Jr's, favor. He was, is and remains, a bitchy loud mouthed punk and he simply could not deliver what he said he was going to deliver throughout the entire pre-fight build up. If you are going to talk sh*t, make sure you can deliver...i.e., back up your words with actions. He couldn't do it. Precision wise, De La Hoya delivered a better fight. Mayweather didn't "run" the entire time, but he ran a good bit of it. The jabs and blows he did land were not entirely "counters" either, but he wasn't the one leading this fight...it wasn't "his" fight. He was trying to tire De La Hoya out, not knock him out, something he failed to accomplish on both points.

This fight should have gone to De La Hoya...but still, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Very much worth going there for.

I'm betting you know much more about boxing than I. Actually I hardly ever watch it. Although, I did see this on PPV and would have to disagree with you. I too may have thought De La Hoya should have won if I saw it live. He did indeed press the action much more. Watching his flurries and how he pressured sometimes at first glace would make me think he would win. But, after each round where he did this they replayed in slow-mo and few of his punches landed. It even looked like Mayweather was catching a beatdown and wasnt blocking. However after watching the replay he was barely hit. This is how I can see why he won and I'd have to agree.

You'd be surprised how hard those barely hits really are.

Yeah I used to tell my mother the same thing when she used to give me a smack and she'd say "Oh cabron I barely hit you" :p

Amen to that. I've been "barely" hit so many times. Many of those, especially when then came in later rounds, were "barely" enough to draw blood. And I am not, nor have ever been, a bleeder...thank God.

I can understand your point though Damon...but there's much more to it than that. When it comes down to a bout decided on points, I simply don't think Mayweather, Jr. was so effective as to out score De La Hoya. Mayweather, Jr. was really outboxed, both technically, skillfully and class wise (not only "class" in the weight sense, but in the demeanor sense as well). 1 judge scored it correctly, the rest did not IMHO.

Haven't seen the fight but, I will be sure to comment once I have.

I've got five ISOM's that says Della Hoya wins the re-match......Takers?

Heh that’ll beat a year+ from now, they’ll probably make De La Hoya fight someone else to figure out who the #1 contender is and then he can have a shot back at his title.

 Cabron....

Reminds me...quite a long time ago, I once ran into a fella and his wife at a party. Didn't know them, but they were family of the person who was the host of the party we were at. He kept calling his wife "cabron, cabron, cabron..." She would answer...it was like his "pet name" for her. Later on, when I was speaking to them both, I asked her, do you know what he is saying when he calls you that? Lol, she responded that HE told her it means "goat." I had to laugh....no, it doesn't mean "goat." Chivo is goat, not cabron. Even if it did, do you enjoy that? Lol. So then she was curious...after this many years (they were, at the time anyway...don't know if they still are...married for at least 10-12 years), what could "cabron" mean? I responded to her that, to put it delicately, the last thing that "cabron" means is goat.

She tore him a new one later, I'm sure. She was shooting daggers at him the rest of that evening.

So there's no confusion I'd like to say I really like De La Hoya. He is in fact a class act and Mayweather not so much. I just thought from the get go that De La Hoya might have been a bit off and Mayweather was up to snuff. I would have liked to see more action so we could have seen who the better boxer was. IMO I dont think we saw either way who was better. De La Hoya did try to engage the action it just didnt happen since Mayweather went on the Defense.

DeLa Hoya won that fight. Only 1 judge scored it correctly.
I remember delahoya losing to Trinidad because he did not engage (even thought he out boxed trinidad and should of won) ...this time he engages most rounds and loses the rounds and match. I didnt want this to go to decision because i knew they would rule against him. Next time Im looking for the KO..
