Depending on how deep they are, you could rip, and biscuit them and that would add strength. Assuming you're not past the finishing stage by now.Tall Paul said:

Only time will tell. The shelves are removable and can be replaced if any sag. I filled one of the large shelves with the biggest books and it had no sag. Most of the books she has are small novels that are at the most 6x10 the shelves for the books are 12" deep so the added width should help with the support. I can add supports to the backs of the shelves but I like the look of just the plank.
