Curio-dor Project! ***Updated with Pics 4/16/2009***

That is one pretty cabinet. Make sure you read the link given about Bu11dog's clock-o-dor, he had a lot of good ideas and it really turned out great. I would definately use more that a couple pounds of beads in that monster, best thing is measure the inside of the cabinet and follow This guideline for how many you need.

Usuing an HVAC/R silacone should work fine fro sealing the glass against the cabinet because it is less prone to shrinking and breaking the seal.

Oh ya I will read over "Bu11dog's clock-o-dor" post many times, I printed it out to read while at work :)

So many good ideas from all you guys, Thanks so much in advance!

For sure! going to try to take as many photo's as I can.

But the best part will be filling it!

Silicone caulking like you would use in your tub and shower are good. Make sure you clean all the surfaces really well. I used alcohol. Let the whole thing dry with all the doors open then clean up any stray caulk with a utility knife. Check around all the doors and make sure they seal tight. If not there are tons of different kinds of caulk strips you can buy. Look in the window and door section of your local hardware store. Also look in the bathroom and tub section you can find some pretty thin strips of caulk stuff that will help keep the doors more airtight. Don't forget to post lots of pictures!

Ok, so getting this monster home was abit of a challenge... its all one piece. So anyhow I got it home and by Murphy's Law as soon as we go to move it into its location I break a window in it, Oh well its a quick fix. I can just pick up a pain at Home Hardware. But on to the rest I cleaned it up and starting to figer out all I need, the dimensions of this Curio-dor are.

80" Tall
43.5" Wide
20" Deep

I will be replacing all the shelfs with Spanish Cedar shelfs I am having made, I am having 5 made. They will be a combination of shelfs/racks and binds. Also am ordering a Oasis II XL and a hella lot of beads :) I am looking around 4'ish lbs and some fans to move the air. But enough of the text lets see some pics!

I want to see some pics with that bad boy FILLED UP!!

That will take some time...

1st I have to finish it! I hope to have it done in the next month or so, then starts the fun of filling this beast!

Very nice! Let's get that thing filled to the rim!

Wow that looks very nice!!! You got me searching craigslist for a cheap curio...haha!! I'm with everyone else on filling it. :D

If anyone is every worried about what type of sealant to use get the following.

Clicky

It's Aquarium sealant. Safe for fish to live in so it's safe for anything else. I've used it on tank repairs and other things that I was concerned about chemicals.

Thanks for the idea! really killer idea!

Thats going to make one outrageous humi! I can't want to see the finished product

I did a curio conversion last year, but it was not nearly that large or nice. I couldn’t have done it without the great examples on this board and help from knowledgeable members.

Mine is getting pretty full, and you have made me believe bigger is better.

Great Job

I have tossed out all my starting ideas for better ones that have come from the people here, it truly is going to be a collective project! I did all the cauking and the weather trim on the doors tonight, that made it air tight, really it only cost me about $12 for the supplies to do that, now I just need to make the shelfs and get the humidy system installed.

I would post pics but really... it looks the same but with white/clearish cauking goes on white drys clear. and a bit of trim around the doors.

When I am done I will do a step by step on how I did it.

Looks awsome man. That will be bad ass when its full. I wouldn't know what to do with all them cigars in front of me.

Well its been a long time coming and there are a few things still to do, but here it is in 90% of its glory! I will explain a few things with each pic!

Pic 1: This is a inside pic of the left door shows the cauking I used Non-toxic and smell less. Also used 1/4" x 3/16" weather stripping to seal the doors.

Pic 2: This is the inside pic of the right door more of the same.

Pic 3: This is a pic of the left door with the inside latch showing the nice seal I get from the weather stripping.
3.jpg

Pic 4: Shows the doors closed and sealing works really well due to there is a lock and key on the right door with the latch from the left holding them both in nice and firm.

Pic 5: There she is! in 90% of her glory!

Pic 6: Closeup from the outside.

Pic 7: What a fine way to be flashed!

Your looking at 8 lbs of beads in there holding at 65%-68% RH, once I get my real shelfs done up and installed and some more sticks! I will be a rocking.

Let me know what you think!!

What I think??.....I think that should be in MY man cave....

Very nice, and what a great idea for killer display Curio-dor!!!
