[TheBeast] Give me three words that describe you?
[DaveWF] Outgoing – Funny…give me a second…technical.
[TheBeast] I'm not sure that last one fits the other two...lol
[DaveWF] In many senses of the word…I can be pretty picky on specific wording, and I'm also a computer tech.
[TheBeast] So who actually thinks you're funny?
[DaveWF] My fiancée and I just went to Pre-Cana (Catholic church pre-wedding thingy) and I verified that I am, in fact, still the class clown.
[TheBeast] Is that what the priest said??
[DaveWF] Actually, it's not a priest that presides over it - just a "regular" married couple.I think it's supposed to make us feel more comfortable talking about married life (sex & stuff) if a priest isn't there
[TheBeast] I bet they're a hoot!! So you actually talk sex with these people?
[DaveWF] No, we didn't talk about positions or anything like that. But it was discussed how sometimes one person wants it, and the other isn't quite in the mood. We were asked how that might be handle.
[TheBeast] I wasn't going to ask that... what I was going to ask is...is the wife of this couple you talked to hot???
[DaveWF] ****NO********* And she needed a bra…you know what happens when “large” women go without a bra too long? Icky!!!
[TheBeast] Find a new church...that's no way to be introduced to marriage bro.
[DaveWF] You have to realize it wasn't just us. There were probably 35-40 couples there.
[TheBeast] Hold on...40 couples...so how many hot woman at this mixer?
[DaveWF] Quite a few. It was pretty cool. Very outgoing crowd.
[DaveWF] Of course we WERE in the Reject Pre-Cana.
[TheBeast] Reject?
[DaveWF] that being only couple that are already married civilly, have kids, were married before, are already living together (that's US), and are over 30 (that's us too!).
[TheBeast] I see. Out going crowd...establishing any "Swinging" relationships…?
[DaveWF] Dude, everyone is there with their fiancée. No one's really looking for anyone there - they've already found them
[TheBeast] Ah…Dave…you are so naïve. When did you start smoking gars? First experience?
[DaveWF] First actual cigar I smoked was when I was 17. I smoked cigarettes at the time, and went to the store to buy some smokes. I saw some (God-awful) cigars - I think they were Ben Franklin brand. 3 in a box - and I foolishly smoked all 3. Of course at the time no one told me what I was supposed to do, so I kept inhaling (remember, I smoked cigarettes). I couldn't understand the appeal of cigars at the time - they kept upsetting my stomach.
[TheBeast] When did you get into the good stuff?
[DaveWF] I had had one or two gifted to me during the big cigar-boom of yesteryear, but never really got into it. Strangely enough, it was slightly after meeting Carrie (fiancee), we were driving by a Stogies shop, and she asked if I smoked cigars. I told her I had had a few in the past - kinda liked 'em. She suggested we go in and check 'em out (and no, she doesn't really smoke cigars!)
[TheBeast] Ah…you were trying to impress the lady...LOL
[DaveWF] Well, the rest is history.... I bought a few that day… went back a couple days later, bought my first travel-dor… still have it too!…bought some more…bought a humidor on E-Bay…bought some more…. found CigarBid.com... bought LOTS & LOTS more.
[TheBeast] So when was this? Back in 94' or so???
[DaveWF] This was is 2000.
[TheBeast] 2000! Newbie!! I've been at this since 92'...how come you have more gars then me? LOL.
[DaveWF] Like I said, CigarBid.com and a credit card… VERY dangerous combination… I don't go there anymore.
[TheBeast] What's the best trip you've ever taken?
[DaveWF] Although as far as "trips" go - I don't know if this really counts - but the last few times I've been up to Saugatuck with Carrie have been some of the best times of my life… just the whole relaxing atmosphere, no schedules, do what you want, when you want… and plus, there's the whole Saugatuck atmosphere… and great burgers at the Butler restaurant.
[TheBeast] You know...you struck me as a guy that would measure a vacation buy the quality of the burger he ate...LMAO
[DaveWF] You obviously haven't had one of their burgers
[TheBeast] I've ate plenty of Butler Burgs. I'm a fan...don't get me wrong. So where did you find this Carrie any way?
[DaveWF] You're going to laugh… We met online.

[DaveWF] Nah, nothing like that... of course she is a technology instructor for K-5th grade, so it just seems appropriate that we meet online. Funny part is, she had been a member for a little while and was tired of it. So she was signing on one last time to cancel her membership when she saw my profile.
[TheBeast] Love at last log in. How sweet. I'm smoking a Lars Winter...just for you...thing is a piece of ****.
[DaveWF] Why would you insult me like that?
[TheBeast] JerryG sent them to me...I figured I should smoke one anyway...he’s a good brother. All my good stuff is in a locker...so I can't smoke it...it works out better that way. Have you been to any of these online promoted herfs?
[DaveWF] The only "official" herf I've been to was the Chicago area Post-Turkey-Day-Crawl
[TheBeast] How was it?
[DaveWF] OMG - like nothing I'd never experienced. Multiple cigar shops - LOTS of smoking, and we ended up at a restaurant that had a blue-cheese burger to die for. I got to meet Matt R last year.
[TheBeast] **TheBeast bows towards DaveWF** Did he talk to you? ROTFLMAO. Did you get his autograph?
[DaveWF] Funny story there… I had seen a picture of him once a long time ago - so I didn't really know what he looked like - but knew he'd be there. So at the restaurant, I'm looking around and don't see him. I ask the guys at our table if anyone knew who MattR was, 'cause I'd like to meet him. So this guy sitting next to me says, "oh yeah, you must be Dave - we've talked online". He was sitting next to me the entire time. We'd been chatting and stuff, just never exchanged names. No autograph - but I have his picture.
[TheBeast] You're having your dream dinner party. What four quests do you invite?
[DaveWF] MattR, DMC, & Rod… man, talk about the smokes at that party! Oh wait, you said, 4. What the hell, I’d invite you too, just for bringing it up.
[TheBeast] Safe to say...no dog-rockets will be making an appearance at that one.

[DaveWF] Well, I've heard that there's a Hemmingway called the "IN between the lines". I have a BTL (maybe even two if I dig deep enough), but if there is such an animal, I'd love to have an IBTL. I look forward to being the first official CP "Celebrity".

[DaveWF] No one has ever nominated me before, and now I just found out that 3 different people have nominated me recently.

[DaveWF] All modesty aside..... I feel the spirit of the HOF is that the person be an excellent passer and member of CP. I have strived to be both...so YES - I do.

[DaveWF] I have a BIG problem throwing away cigars - anytime I amass a pile of DR's, I find someone to pawn them off on - you (and the other essay winners) were the lucky recipients last time.
[TheBeast] So what do you do for a living?
[DaveWF] I work for Systech Retail Systems. I'm an on-call mobile field-technician for cash registers, the computers that control them, and pretty much everything in-between. Basically, I'm a glorified computer tech.
[TheBeast] This ****ing Lars was uneventful...go figure
[DaveWF] Well, having never had a Lars, I'll cheerfully take your word for it

[DaveWF] Oh definitely Tom Cruise. I'm putting that in my contract.
[TheBeast] You think he can handle the part???
[DaveWF] Oh c'mon he's not THAT bad an actor. He'll need to start smoking cigars now, so he'll be ready to really get into character once the script is done.
[TheBeast] He might have to start eating more burgers also...huh???
[DaveWF] Actually I've been sort of dieting for the wedding - lost 25 lbs so far.
[TheBeast] So how did you first hear of CP?
[DaveWF] I was a big ASC (newsgroup Alt.Smokers.Cigars) user for a while - and actually joined a pass that was started, and tracked on the newsgroup. It was a nightmare keeping track of it - so I asked if there was a site that we could use to track a box pass - someone recommended CP, and the rest is history. CP is now my primary cigar reference online. I don't visit many other cigar sites anymore. Any thing I need to know - I can find out here.
[TheBeast] How was your welcoming as a newbie?
[DaveWF] Very good. You have to realize that there are very few people left from the time that I joined. I was quickly invited into a pass, and soon thereafter started one of my own. Dig way down into the closed passes for the Midwest Moderately Priced Milds pass. This all happened before the big server upgrade. So everything from that "era" is lost - it wasn't transferred over to the new board.
[TheBeast] Your top 5 gars?
[DaveWF] Man... I knew this was coming. Top 5 in general - or top 5 that I've actually smoked?
[TheBeast] Actually smoked...how the hell would you know if you haven't smoked it? LOL.
[DaveWF] Reputation? I knew it was a silly question as soon as I hit send. Anyway... #1 PAM, #2 Hemmingway Signature, #3 Most of any A. Fuente “regular line”, #4 any Padron, #5 RyJ Torpedo…it was plain outstanding. No idea where I got it, or who sent it, but man it was a good one.
[TheBeast] I just found a hair in a Tortilla Chip bag...you think it's Hispanic? LOL
[DaveWF] Dude, that's just plain wrong.
[TheBeast] No one said I was right... If you could spend the day following around any Cigar Manufacturer...who would it be?
[DaveWF] It'd have to be the Padron Family. Padron's are just an all around outstand smoke for Newbie to Vet. Tons of smoke - never too harsh - just plain yummy.
[TheBeast] Would you ever use a cigar like Clinton did?
[DaveWF] NO - I wouldn't, I always thought the excess "moisture" would break down the glue and you'd have an unrolling cigar.
[TheBeast] Best smoke shop near you?
[DaveWF] They don't always have the hard to find stuff, but the employees at Habana Cigar Shop in Schaumburg are great. As far as the best cigars, Cigar King in Skokie is the tops.
[TheBeast] Best situation to smoke a cigar??
[DaveWF] With friends. No question there.
[TheBeast] Are you going to the LOLH???
[DaveWF] No - some butthead scheduled it on the same day as my wedding. WHAT WAS HE THINIKING???
[TheBeast] Can you leave the wedding early? LOL.
[DaveWF] It’s probably not a good idea.

[DaveWF] Not yet - I don’t know if my best man is a bachelor party kind of guy.

[DaveWF] Hope you have all the friends up there then. I don't think I could convince mine to travel 4 hours for a party.
