CP Messenger - 1 week pilot

Error2.jpg

And another... Different thread!

[sub]I got this same messege yesterday. I clicked refresh and it loaded fine.[/sub]

This has been happening from time to time.

I'm considering whether or not to purchase the app. I'd hate to have to shut it down if it causes issues down the road. Let's give it a few more days...

I haven't gotten any more Fatal Errors, but I do have overlapping text and names in the messenger, next time I get a PM I'll snap a screen shot!

It could just be me, but here's what I get...

I deleted some of the content, but the overlapping text is what I was getting at.

I'm guilty of leaving my machine on for days and staying logged into Cp. Got a message from Hobs and when I responded he wasn't there. I think it's working fine on my end. Had a little convo with Hillbilly Steaks. Went off without a hitch

I started writing a new thread while having a chat and noticed the text box for a new post floated over the chat window, instead of the other way around.

So I noticed messenger is gone. I would just like to say while it might have had some bugs, I had some great conversations with some brothers and would like to see it come back.

Yea. It was cool..till coops started the video chat...then it was just crazy

HE video chatted with you too?!?! :0 That lying whore!

The chat was kinda cool, for the day I experienced it.

The trial expired, and I decided to forgo purchasing it at this time due to the resource demands it places on the server.

Hi Rod,
So the messenger puts new strain on the server, is this something that can be fixed with parts or would you have to replace the entire server? What kind of costs are we looking at?

Personally, I thought the messenger greatly enhanced my user interaction with this website, so much that I would happily contribute sticks/cash to help fund-raise for the necessary upgrade. I'd like to hear from other BOTLs if they feel the same.

Could you give us a sense in terms of what we'd be looking at to make it work?

Maybe the liquidation of the CP insurance (what ever happened to that BTW) could pay for it.

I'm not sure if beefing up the server will make that much of a difference. The problem is with how the messenger software is written, especially when people walk away from their computer with CP still open. I do that all of the time myself. The last thing I want to do is compromise the forum for sake of a messenger.

When the messenger has been running for a couple of weeks, it begins to keep jobs open on the server, which in turn slowly fills up all remaining PHP memory. Think of it as a memory leak, except intentional memory leak.

I will look at other options and see what else is available.
